Tap. Poured dark brown color with an average frothy brown head that lasted and produced good lacing. Moderate to heavy toasted malt and whiskey vanilla wood aroma. Medium to full body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Moderate to heavy toasted dark sweet flavor with a medium to heavy wood dark sweet finish of moderate to long duration. This is a standout beer.

On tap at Country Boy Brewpub in KY. Pitch black with ony a suggestion of brown. Modest tan head is b=very durable and leaves excellent lacing. Rare barrel is evident in both the nose and the taste but does not mask numerous other flavors. Sweet aroma, as is the flavor at first, but turns moderately bitter by the finish. Very full body with light carbonation. O: Exceptional and highly recommended.

ContemplateBeer (1543) - Louisville, Kentucky, USA - AUG 3, 2013
Aroma: Lots of vanilla and burnt sugars, toffee, a dusting of cocoa. Appearance: Sheer black with solid tan head. Flavor: Primarily barrel character up front, fudgy, a hint of citrus. Palate: Medium body, oily texture, soft carbonation, long finish. Overall: A real transformation of the base beer, but a very tasty experiment.

Draught at brewery. Sour and cherry taste complimented by chocolate. Oak and bourbon in there too. Quite sticky. Really fantastic.
