COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask; Available November to June.
This dark Ruby Red Porter is brewed using Maris otter and black malt, combined with Fuggles and Golding hop’s makes this easy drinking porter with lots of character. Smokey and rich on the nose, coffee and toffee notes develop in the mouth.
This porter has a light, refreshing mouthful and a delicate rather than beefy body.

Cask conditioned at Far From the Madding Crowd, Oxford. Dark Chestnut with virtually no head. Quite a strong, tarty fruitiness, intense and a little off putting, sour plum or cherry perhaps. Dark malty body, some caramel. Not for me.

A Mes rate. Cask at the Rake.
Amber brown with no head. Apples and paint stripper. Decent malt but it’s not enough to save it. Faint bitterness in the finish. Blah.

Bottle. Dark brown with red tints and a beige foam. Aromas are caramel and chocolate malts with earthy, smoky notes. Winter berries with hints of liquorice. Molasses with soft lemon. Flavours are light roast malts with grapefruit bitterness. Underlying chocolate with some nuttiness. Slightly oily with a peppery, dry finish. A spritzy porter.

On gravity at the Tuckers Maltings Beer festival, Newton Abbot 23/04/10. Almost black in colour with a slight, tan head. Bitter chocolate, with some dried fruit, black coffee and roasted, dry finish. Enjoyable.

ALLOVATE (2098) - Butler, AUSTRALIA - NOV 24, 2011
Bottle, cool not cold. Soft pffft once the cap came off and not exactly alive on the pour. Manages a thin island of tannish cream atop a black as midnight body. Spicy and vinous, almost port-like kick in the aroma with underlying nuances of charred wood, ash, molasses and smoked meats, alluring, different. Chalky, smoky and smooth in the mouth. Lots of malt; pronounced burnt wood and bitter, roasted coffee bean, light tannins in back, also, compliments. A touch of cola beer adds an itch of sweetness up front, as does a residual tarry, molasses note that, along with some ashen wood, sticks around long after each sip. Found the body to be very light giving it session quality. The flavour amazingly in high gear. A great Porter, another surprisingly good one coming out of the West Country! (50cL, BBE 07/12, Darts Farm, Topsham, Exeter, Devon)
