COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask; Available November to June.
This dark Ruby Red Porter is brewed using Maris otter and black malt, combined with Fuggles and Golding hopís makes this easy drinking porter with lots of character. Smokey and rich on the nose, coffee and toffee notes develop in the mouth.
This porter has a light, refreshing mouthful and a delicate rather than beefy body.

Cask conditioned at Far From the Madding Crowd, Oxford. Dark Chestnut with virtually no head. Quite a strong, tarty fruitiness, intense and a little off putting, sour plum or cherry perhaps. Dark malty body, some caramel. Not for me.

Bottle. Dark brown with red tints and a beige foam. Aromas are caramel and chocolate malts with earthy, smoky notes. Winter berries with hints of liquorice. Molasses with soft lemon. Flavours are light roast malts with grapefruit bitterness. Underlying chocolate with some nuttiness. Slightly oily with a peppery, dry finish. A spritzy porter.

Cask, The Slug and Lettuce, Leicester, 02/01/14. First real beer of 2014? Beige-capped mahogany winking with ruby. Soft roast, berries, sneaking red wine nose topped up with mocha. Lovely rounded chocolate Hobnob dunked in mocha and Vimto flavour. Apple peel and clovey esters. Roasted hazelnut and smokey linger; meat and herb as befits the season. Complex and very drinkable.

On gravity at the Tuckers Maltings Beer festival, Newton Abbot 23/04/10. Almost black in colour with a slight, tan head. Bitter chocolate, with some dried fruit, black coffee and roasted, dry finish. Enjoyable.
