Anna: Copper. Aroma has sweetness, strange, almost maple. Amost apples at the roof of the mouth. Smells a little marmitey too. Quite sharp.

Cask from The Oak, Horsley Woodhouse, Derbyshire 16-05-09 bottled at the pub by dad and brought along to mine Pours dark chesnut, has lost some sparkle on the journey but still in fair nick. Quite bitter, a stick like woodland bitterness, earthy and rustic in fact lets not beat about the bush its quite rough around the edges, the alcohol is quite prominent. This would never win a prize for finesse. Malt and alcohol really dominate with the bitterness, its ok but hard work and I don’t think I would have managed with a pint of this. A6 A3 F5 P3 Ov11 2.8

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 JorisPPattyn (6728) - Antwerpen, BELGIUM - MAR 23, 2008
Thick beige head over hazy amber-brown beer with mossy shine. Fresh malty & greenery nose, parsley and a decent touch of chocolate. Chocolaty, and tobacco-ashy flavours mixed with some discreet but good hops. Notes of caramalt and chocolate malts; dry-ish, leafy finish. Light to medium bodied; very slight dry-out effect. Nice beer, definitely; discreetly British, even when they persist calling a 6% ale strong... Pity about Lundy Island brewery, however. Thanks very much, SteveH, very nice!
