COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask Ale. Regular.
Originally brewed in Courage's Anchor brewery on the south bank of the Thames. It was moved to the Berkshire brewery at Reading in the 1970s, then to the Courage Brewery in Bristol. When Bristol closed in 1999 it moved to Tadcaster. Following ScotCo's reshuffle in 2004 it was contract brewed by Youngs, returning it to a site on the south bank of the Thames. In Jan 2007 the Courage brand was purchased by Wells & Young and production moved to Bedford.
Courage Best has long been one of the best selling cask beers in the South of England.

Cask Conditioned: The beer pours somewhat copper coloured. It had a decent head, but it dissapated rather quickly. There was a mild citrus fruit aroma to it. They were also somewhat pronounced in the taste, but yet still rather subdued. Maltiness in the background. Very smooth. Pretty good, but not overly exciting.

UPDATED: SEP 25, 2004 Rerate, cask at the Station Hotel, Ipswich: Aroma of English malt vinegar, hints of dishwasher liquid. Smooth flavour without too much character. Low on hops. Original rating, 3.1: (Draught). I remember this one as a decent standard bitter, nothing remarkable.

Cask Conditioned. Regular at one of my locals, can't believe I've never rated it before. Bog standard session bitter, nothing outstanding nor disgusting. Sweetly malty but very bland.

UPDATED: FEB 28, 2004 Cask Conditioned: Light and doesn't taste of much. Pretty nasty bitter, not helped by the obvious poor conditions it was kept in by the landlord. July 21, 2002 (Keg) A pretty average standard bitter. Drinkable, but not great.

UPDATED: FEB 1, 2005 Probably my favorite mass produced bitter, maybe because it was my first in the UK. Easy drinking, good lunchtime beer. Requires a well kept cellar, as was stated. Quite often drunk in the Moonraker in Crawely.

Excellent drinkable bitter that needs to be kept right. Always excellent in my local where they take a lot of trouble over it. Very clean, with light hoppiness and malt. An easy bitter that deserves more praise

Lightish flavours, to bland and boring for me, light flavours and light alcohol level, make for a dull and boring beer, i got sick of seeing this crap on tap in London, don’t bother with this one.
