COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask Ale. Regular.
Originally brewed in Courage's Anchor brewery on the south bank of the Thames. It was moved to the Berkshire brewery at Reading in the 1970s, then to the Courage Brewery in Bristol. When Bristol closed in 1999 it moved to Tadcaster. Following ScotCo's reshuffle in 2004 it was contract brewed by Youngs, returning it to a site on the south bank of the Thames. In Jan 2007 the Courage brand was purchased by Wells & Young and production moved to Bedford.
Courage Best has long been one of the best selling cask beers in the South of England.

[Cask at Birkbeck Tavern] An amber beer with a small foamy and disappearing head. The aroma is very slight. The flavor is rather sweet, turning OK bitter, but missing a little palate. An average Ale.

From cask. Pours clear and golden orange with a small, off-white and lacing head. Aroma is mild crisp grassy and slight hayish. Caramelish malty, slight toffee and distinct crisp bitterness. Ends dry.

Cask@GBBF2010. Amber colour, small off-white head. Aroma is fruits, wooden, earthy and mildly toffeeish. Flavour is wooden, dry earthyness as well as some caramel malts. Not bad, just slightly boring...

Cask @ GBBF, 2011. Pours unclear amber with a bubbly head on top. Floral and fruity. Quite a lot of corn. Dry and clean. Medium to thin body. Decent.

@ Hop Pole, Limpley Stoke. Golden-amber. Caramelly aroma. The palate is caramel with a hint of toastiness. Sweetish finish, maybe with light minerals.

Cask handpull at County Hotel, JDW, Ashford. I’m having this as SilkTork said it was better than it used to be and also because it is now being brewed by Wells & Young’s. It’s fine. A little bit bitter shandyish. Some yeasty aroma, some lemony citrus, some malt. Not a lot of hop on finish. Bit dull, but ok.
