Originally only brewed for the Courage directors, the spare beer was sold locally as Alton IPA, but soon became known as Director’s.
Courage brand bought by Wells & Youngs Jan 2007.

Full bodied with a clean, bitter taste, balanced with a sweet burnt, malty and fruity notes with a distinctive dry-hop aroma and flavour.

500ml. in a pint glass. I bought this @ Morrisons as I have been buying up boring beers that I have scrolled past b4. Nose of dusty books , butterscotch , caramel malt , salty nuts . It is a good looking orange beer with a good foamy white head . very malty , chewy and tepid . thought it would suck more .

Bottle from Tesco; clear dark amber pour with a massive bubbly beige head, aroma has dark fruits and brown sugar sweet malts, taste has caramel, autumn leaves, some vegetation, a hint of fruit, wasn’t expecting much, and you know what it didn’t deliver, probably better in cask.

Canned version not the bottle. Head is short lived and leaves minimal lacing. But the colour is true British bitter. Nose is malt, chocolate and plastic. Taste is surprisingly light. On first inspection I really thought it would be heavier. Light carbonation on the tongue leads to a balanced malt and dry finish. It is the ale equivalent of Super Dry. Moreish yet not overly full over flavours. The flavors I do get are super light caramel, toffee and malt.....but very faint. It is a decent ale but if I was to drink a Wells ale I would go for Bombardier. The cask version is much better.

Pours a clean Amber colour with a moderate off white head that doesn't hold. Malty aroma with a slight hint of hops. Caramel malt into mild coffee bitterness.

Pours clear, amber. Not much head. Aroma is treacle, bubble gum, banana. Quick finish, not a lot of flavor. Medium body. Rather odd.

Clear dark reddish brown. Not much aroma, but it smells slightly off. Not much flavor: a bit brown and watery. Quickly disappears from the mouth. A rather strange beer.

500ml bottle from Asda. Pours clear amber with a short-lived white head. Aromas of butterscotch and caramel. Taste is sweet, faint hint of orange cordial. Clean finish. So clean I forgot I was drinking it.

500 ml bottle with a BB date stamp of 14 Dec. 2015. Poured deep red-amber with a decent sized head that displayed poor retention and only left a few spots of lacing. Feel: near full bodied with medium carbonation. Flavor: lightly hops such that the hops are obvious but the ale is just mildly bitter and about equally malty and hoppy. O: amber ale meets ESB

Quite easy to drink. Not much else to say about this one. You can taste the malt, erm.. No head, nothing to make you buy it again.

Not very good, I liked the bottle so bought it at Morrison’s 2014. a Mild, fain’t carbonated . Pour’s a standard dark Brown colour, clear with a small temporary head. Nothing for the mouthfeel, just watery, and stale, lots of carbonation. Taste is very minor, Earthy, and bitter with some mild spice. Clean dry finish, decently crisp, but uninspiring.
