Originally only brewed for the Courage directors, the spare beer was sold locally as Alton IPA, but soon became known as Director’s.
Courage brand bought by Wells & Youngs Jan 2007.

Full bodied with a clean, bitter taste, balanced with a sweet burnt, malty and fruity notes with a distinctive dry-hop aroma and flavour.

Ale al naso molto fruttata, prugna e frutti di bosco con punte di uva, al gusto un dolce stucchevole, poco beverina. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Top-shelf pick in the local Tesco. Dark ambercolour, average head, nice for an ale. Mild malty nose. Aroma is caramel, and hops. Flavour is dominated by hops, and some soft grass tones. Very nice beer despite its pompous naming.

Good malty aroma with a touch of a little flower. The foam is serious, sustained and it has a high carbonation. Good malt flavor with caramel and a long aftertaste of hops. It’s an ok ESB.

Very simple beer. No distinctive aroma and quite simple taste. Smooth palate with no real aftertaste.

500ml bottle from Aldi - seeing as it was only £1.25 I thought I’d give this a kick. Not the worst thing I’ve had, but a bit old hat. Rich ruby body, thin white head. Nose is rich fruits, malt and toffee. Taste is quite overpowered with malt, a little lingering hoppiness at the end. Okay beer really.

500ml bottle at home. Has been a long time since I last had one. A supermarket purchase. BB Feb 2016, 4.8%. Dark orange, pretty clear, the odd bubble, after the initial foam a small scummy beige head forms, no lacing. Aroma is toffee, copper pipe, coins and neoprene. Maybe some ginger biscuit in the back. Body is medium, soft carbonation, quite smooth. Taste is damp bread, coins, soft bitterness. A plain, malt-forward beer. Not awful, but I probably won’t revisit this one.
