Ale al naso molto fruttata, prugna e frutti di bosco con punte di uva, al gusto un dolce stucchevole, poco beverina.

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Bottle. Walnut brown with amber-orange hues; Cereal malt aromas with some spiced, dried fruit; Medium bodied with a full carbonated mouthfeel; Dark fruit and black pepper dominate palate with bittering hoppiness - blood orange and grapefruit; Malty sweetness on finish. A decent Pale Ale with a bit of flavour if not overtly expressive, but the carbonated mouthfeel is distracting!

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Bottle at the Bedford Arms, Bedford. Insipid amber, very flat for a bottle with hardly any head. Caramel, firewood and Turkush delight are represented in the interesting but ultimately unengaging scent. The taste is decent, with a respectable malt hit. Unfortunately it dissipates fairly quickly, leaving nothing for the finish. It’s not great.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle. Clear amber body with a thin white head. Lively carbonation. Light lacing. Aroma of tea, copper and boiled vegetables. Flavour of fruit cake, bread and nuts. Thin body with a watery texture. Soft fizz. A reasonable Premium Bitter - I think this would be pretty good on cask.

2.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
Bottle that Dad shared with me- cheers. This is a beer that I’ve always thought of as reasonably decent when I’ve had it in good condition on cask, so I was interested to see how it would cope with the transition to bottle. It’s a bit lighter in colour than I remember it being on cask- amber with a thin off-white head. It’s definitely too fizzy. Up front though it’s quite promising- there’s a big fruity berry whiff. On tasting it’s much less pleasant- vague caramel pushed aside by assertive cardboard and metal. And the fizz is constantly annoying. Another decent UK cask ale is destroyed by pasteurization. Why do they do it?
