Aroma of coffee and liquorice with some cocoa notes. Flavour adds perhaps a hint of roast and even marmite

UPDATED: DEC 13, 2013 Bottle from Tesco. 2013 Vintage. Black beer with medium tan head. Aroma of cocoa, coffee and some wood shavings. Taste is dark chocolate, coffee beans, some vanilla and dark fruits with a touch of licorice. There is a little warmth from the alcohol but nothing imposing. Medium bodied and moderately oily. Very nice. Have a few more to open at various years.

9.3Oz bottle poured into a tulip glass.
Super dark brown color with a huge fluffy dark beige head that stays.
Dark chocolate aromas, cocoa nibs, vanilla, marzipan and some roasted wood.
Sweet chocolaty flavor, dark fruits, lo bitterness, espresso, some alcohol and vanilla.
Med-full body, surprisingly fizzy, somewhat creamy and quite rich.

Bottle from Tesco. Pours black with decent tan head. Fantastic coffee and cocolate flavours before a big bitter licorice finish. This is really rich and delicious. Very close to perfection. Jut a touch of harshness on the finish, which might be sorted out by ageing. I’ll have to get a few more bottle to find out!

11/30/13 $6.99 cool looking expensive bottle from CBO.
Pours a dark chocolate brown with a big fluffy tan head.
Smelled mostly of dark fruit with slight chocolate and coffee. Taste was similar with hints of licorice. Mouthfeel was average. I love a good RIS and was very excited for this especially with the cost but found it average at best

Shared a cool-looking little 9.3oz brown bottle (#048498) with gregwilsonstl. It poured opaque black with thin but persistent tan foam, some sticky lace. Aromas of toast, roasted barley, alcohol, hints of raisins, raspberries. Strong fruity flavours: dried apricots, pears, plum sauce. Strong caramelized sugar flavours, toffee, molasses. Bready, nutty. Heavy body and full mouthfeel, below-average carbonation. Complex and tasty, but rough-around-the-edges, I’m sure it would benefit from aging. A bit too boozy.

Lovely. Bottle at Lincoln Wine bar. Oily black. Big brown head. Aroma has chocolate and roasted malt. The flavor is semi-sweet with notes of alcohol, chocolate, and roasted malt, leading to a dry, slightly toasted finish.
