11/30/13 $6.99 cool looking expensive bottle from CBO.
Pours a dark chocolate brown with a big fluffy tan head.
Smelled mostly of dark fruit with slight chocolate and coffee. Taste was similar with hints of licorice. Mouthfeel was average. I love a good RIS and was very excited for this especially with the cost but found it average at best

Pours dark brown with a foamy tan head. Excellent lacing. Aroma is sweet roast malts and a hint of fruit. Taste is rich chocolate, espresso and and brown sugar. Some licorice, raisin and cinammon as well. A touch of booze, but decently well-disguised. Very nice.

Shared a cool-looking little 9.3oz brown bottle (#048498) with gregwilsonstl. It poured opaque black with thin but persistent tan foam, some sticky lace. Aromas of toast, roasted barley, alcohol, hints of raisins, raspberries. Strong fruity flavours: dried apricots, pears, plum sauce. Strong caramelized sugar flavours, toffee, molasses. Bready, nutty. Heavy body and full mouthfeel, below-average carbonation. Complex and tasty, but rough-around-the-edges, I’m sure it would benefit from aging. A bit too boozy.

Lovely. Bottle at Lincoln Wine bar. Oily black. Big brown head. Aroma has chocolate and roasted malt. The flavor is semi-sweet with notes of alcohol, chocolate, and roasted malt, leading to a dry, slightly toasted finish.

Bottle. Orlando. Nice two finger foamy head. Nice big aroma of cocoa, coffee, and roasted malt. Creamy texture. Medium bodied at least. Kind of like a roasted malt/warming alchohol milkshake. Frothy yumminess. I wonder if Catherine the Great put down her vodka for good after drinking this stuff. Great beer.

New Beer Distributors, NYC bottle ($7): Pours black with a small tan head. Aroma is raisin, roasted malt, sugar, coffee, and a pinch of booze. Taste is somewhat sweet, but not cloying. Not really much on the bitter side. Lots of dark fruity flavors, coupled with a light alcohol burn. (2012 Vintage).

UPDATED: FEB 15, 2014 Lovely to look at. Dark and thick. Big alcohol. It’s was overpowering in a few ways, nothing subtle about it, but maybe that’s an imperial stout. Tan head. Very rich and malty sweet. This bottle had a skunky smell to it. Not sure if it was just me b/c I had a cold or it was the bottle. It didn’t jive for me.
