4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
275 ml bottle into tulip glass, best before 9/19/2024. Pours nearly pitch black color with a 2-3 finger dense and fluffy tan head with incredible retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Nice soapy lacing clings around the glass. Aromas of big dark chocolate, cocoa, roasted malt, toast, light char, coffee, dark bread, and roasted earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of dark and roasted malt notes; with good strength. Taste of big dark chocolate, cocoa, roasted malt, toast, char, coffee, dark bread, light raisin, licorice, and roasted earthiness. Lingering notes of dark chocolate, cocoa, roasted malt, toast, char, coffee, dark bread, licorice, and roasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Excellent balance and complexity of dark and roasted malt flavors with light fruitiness; with big robustness and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium-high carbonation and fairly full bodied; with a creamy, slick, fairly chalky, and lightly prickly mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a light warming noticed after the finish; very smooth to sip on for 10%. Overall this is a highly excellent imperial stout! Great balance and complexity of big dark/roasted malt flavors; and very smooth to sip on. A highly enjoyable offering.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
A little 275ml served in a snifter
A - Pours the darkest of browns with a thin mocha head morphing into a thin wispy ceiling of micro bubbles.
S - Yeasty dark breads, pumpernickel, raisins, fig jam,
T - Roasted creamy malts, toasted cocoa, firm woody bitterness, brown raisin bread, roasted figs, smoked malts, molasses, cold espresso, finishes with a nirvana mix of fruit bread, caramelized brown sugar, bitter hops, espresso, anise, doughy brown bread.
M - Low carbonation, dense creamy feel, medium weighted body.
Very complex and delicious. The roast takes a backseat and lets the raw heavy malt play out with the yeast. Very raw, bold flavors delicately interweaved together. Wish it came in a bigger bottle.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle - Pours very dark brown w/ brown head, lots of retention. Smells of chocolate, roasted malts, and coffee. More rich, creamy chocolate in the taste plus some coffee, dark malt, and so dark fruit at the end.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
2012 Vintage. Lots of caramel aroma for a stout. No head. Some smoke and fruit flavors. Espresso finishes it off. Quite different for a stout but quite enjoyable.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Bottled at Masterclass by Ron Pattinson @ de Prael. Dark color, short head. Aroma has a huge alcohol nose, together with some roasted malts and coffee, hint of fruity english yeast, no brett around. Alcohol in taste as well, bit bitter, bit sweet. Bit overpowered by the alcohol, which I didnt expect to be honest.

Heavy flavor of laktris. Heavy scent. Long aftertaste of laktris. But I think this beer was a bit overrated. Had more expectations of this beer. Follow me @ Kung av öl / King of Beer @ Facebook for more pictures and ratings.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
2012 bottle. Lots of thick foamy head, doesn’t have the nice tan colour, looks more like the creamy stuff you get from Guinness. Colour is pitch black but not as thick as I was expecting. The smell is sweet, with hints of oak, black liquorice, coffee and chocolate. Taste is lots of black liquorice, bit of heat from the booze and a molasses like finish that also manages to be sweet. Very enjoyable, not to bold but nice for sure.

Bottle from ales unlimited sf. Pours a nice rich dark black with medium bodied tan head that quickly dissipates. Coffee aroma, didn’t pick up anything else really. Mildly bitter. A nice RIS

Here I was expecting to be disappointed. I mean, come on, originally brewed for some long dead monarch... who gives a f***? Must have been written by a marketing wanker with trendy sideburns, right? Well, maybe. But this is a hugely delicious, well balanced, full-figured stout. What a nice surprise.
