glennmastrange (2253) - hobe sound, Florida, USA - MAR 12, 2012
Bottle. Moderate to heavy malt aromas of dark bread, toasted andstrong coffee, Moderate herbs and resin for the hops, light to moderate leather and earth for the yeast with wood, solvent and tobacco in the background. Head is huge, frothy, light brown with fair lacing and is mostly lasting. Color is muddy and chunky, veryt dark brown with swirls of lighter brown. Flavor starts lightly sweet and lightly to moderately acidic, then finishes lightly acidic and long harshly bitterness like chewing tobacco. Palate is medium to full, creamy with a carbonation between soft and lively, and a finish that’s chalky, moderately alcholic, and very dry, with some bits to chew on. It has a great aroma, but this Imperial Stout is a little harsh in the mouth to justify the price to go back and get another one.

Scopey (6812) - Croydon, Greater London, ENGLAND - MAR 11, 2012
Bottle from Beer Revolution, Oakland. It pours very dark brown, with a thick beige head. The nose is roasted malt, smoke, espresso, leather, toffee and liquorice. The taste is caramel, toffee, roasted malt, coffee, smoke, toast, charcoal, meat, wood, some fruit, liquorice and alcohol warmth, with a long dry-roasted finish. Full body and moderate carbonation. Good balance. The best thing Wells & Young have done in a long time.

Has a dark, roasty nose but more malt than a typical stout. Taste is heavy and dark, but not the coffee grind bitter I normally expect and don’t like. Really a good stout and if I were a fan of this style it might get a high rating.

Sec, vineux presque sûr avec des notes de cafés et de chocolat. L’amertume complémente assez bien. Tout de même étrange stout.

A solid imperial stout. Interesting 275ml bottle. It is robust with a focus of cocoa.

Enjoyed this at the Bx Beer Depot a few weeks ago. Served slightly chilled in 12oz snifter. A: Dark Chocolate, Roast Coffee, Fresh Bread A: Pours opaque black with a rich tan head filled with tiny bubbles. The head is just amazing, its thick and tough like a brick house and the perfectly dark tan color. Lacing is adequate. Sediment remains at the bottom of the bottle. I poured it in after taking the notes... T: Wow. A chorus of flavors. A wonderfully rich dark chocolate. Notes of espresso, milky caramel, and bread crust play with the chocolate to make a wonderfully complex flavor with the very first sip. Dark fruit, cherries and dates play in the background with a hint of pear. M: Medium to moderate carbonation. Rich, thick body without any syrup. It feels a little lighter bodied than it should because of the bubbles. Not a bad thing, but I prefer silkier stouts. O: Amazing beer. It only got better with every sip. Unfortunately, at $8.00 for a 9oz bottle, there weren’t too many sips to enjoy. I’d love to cellar one of these for a year or two and come back to it. Fabulous beer.

275ml Bottle: Aroma of malt and fresh chocolate fudge. Poured pitch black in color with a small, creamy, dense, brown head that diminished but lasted throughout. Opaque. Flavor is lightly sweet and slightly bitter. Tastes of malt, roasting, and chocolate. Medium body. Average texture. Average carbonation. Malt, roast, chocolate finish. 10%ABV is completely hidden throughout.
