Bottle from Capone’s. The pour is burnt umber toward black, pretty thick, turbid, with a 3-finger tan head. Nose is figgy fruit, raisins, roasty charred black patent malt, and blackberries. Tastes rich, fruity with a lot of fig and blackberry flavor (and yes, I know no fruit was added, so save your BMs), charred black malt, backup hops, and cacao late. Well hidden alcohol, with a dryer finish. Solid.

Pours a deep deep brown with a lasting medium tan head. Nose of figs and currants and all manner of dark fruits with some phenol, rubber, and alcohol. Taste of gingerbread, spices, leather, tobacco, smoky wood pulp and some chocolate malts that aren’t overbearing, thank you. Just a tad bitter on the back end. Wonderful. My favorite stout?

Bottle. Pours a very dark and thick brown color with a smallish off-white head. Almost a little barrel aged notes in the nose, with some toasting and roasting. Taste is a bit sweet with some strong coffee notes in it.

Pitch black. Some flecks of brown catch the light. Complex nose, espresso, cocoa, vanilla. Powerful punch of heavy bitterness actually seems to interfere with some of the lingering flavors on the finish.

275ml bottle pours black in color with a 2 finger tan head that leaves some pretty nice lacing on the glass. Aroma is light roasted grains and chocolate with some hoppy notes. Taste is light roasted grains with a strong malty sweetness finishing with some light hop bitterness. Medium bodied with mild carbonation. A nicely done brew and recommended.

UPDATED: FEB 6, 2013 Ar:Sweet, malty, roasted, AP: Dark with light tan head. Taste: Roast, ashy, bit of fruit at the end. Full, thick palate with nice carb, very light bitterness at finish. True to form, great beer from the "original". 2012, cant wait to see what time does.

Aroma of heavy licorice, black coffee and slight peat. Pours black with a giant foamy head. Taste is very strong with a burnt peat, anis taste and a great roasty chocolate finish. Super intense and good.

Pours a pure black color with a super thick caramel colored head. Aroma is full of malts, with some chocolate, black licorice, and roastiness. Full bodied. Flavor is loaded with flavor. I can get malts, chocolate, molasses, barley, and a little coffee. Leaves a roasted malt and chocolate finish. This is very good!

Yeah it is a soft rating for me but at this point of completion of the MJ 500 book and my 366 rating I will take it.
