4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
9.3oz bottle poured into my squat little Oskar Blues 10-Fidy glass. It pours up with a deep dark body supporting a lasting fairly tall mocha colored head. The aroma offers up sweet dark fruity esters like figs and dates as well as earthy chocolate and dark roasted to a sliver of burnt malts. Smells nice. The taste is rich with mineral nuanced dark roasted malts and chocolate and near firm levels of brown sugar coated simmering figs. To midway the chocolate shows off some dark chocolate richness just as the modest level of booze is noticed. It ends with a pleasing and long lasting dark roasted malt to burnt malt to dark chocolate goodness that you really donít want to end. Nice brew indeed.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
My Bottom Line:
This dessert of an Imperial Stout joins prunes, milk chocolate, roasted cereals and caramel, leading them to a heavy yet harmonious finish.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A slim slice of foam garnishes the darkness.
-This lacks hop character in the finish (for my tastes in the style).
-Carbonation is rather low, which makes the sweetness feel heavier.
-The nose is very expressive and predicts the sweet onslaught.
-Unripe pears also appear in the flavor profile.

Traded bottle with a best before date, 19/09/24, sometime after my youngest would graduate college. Iíll be honest, I thought this would be a little lackluster just because it is comes from just a large producer but this was really tasty. Lots of coffee and bitter chocolate. Maybe a touch boozey but good overall.

Average head, not creamy at all. Sturdy body with smoke and floral tones. Dark roast coffee in the flavor, and a good portion of hops. Gives a fresher impressions than Guinness.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
275mL bottle from By the Bottle. May 2011 bottle date.
A: Pure ink black with a dense creme head. Pour is quicker than I might expect. Legs are noticeable.
N: Intense, smoke, leather, and tobacco. Prunes and raisins and rye bread. Very peppery. Dense and rich with a notable essence of dark fruits. Hops show up with the earth and peppercorn.
T: Bitter hops and bakerís chocolate dryness. Very very spicy in a black pepper way. Very much in the vein of the hopped-up stout.
M: Oily and medium heavy body. Very prickly. Could use some more heft, but the alcohol is well-hidden.
O: really good stuff. Itís well balanced and deft of hand. I want to buy more and age it for the long haul.
