3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
My Bottom Line:
This dessert of an Imperial Stout joins prunes, milk chocolate, roasted cereals and caramel, leading them to a heavy yet harmonious finish.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A slim slice of foam garnishes the darkness.
-This lacks hop character in the finish (for my tastes in the style).
-Carbonation is rather low, which makes the sweetness feel heavier.
-The nose is very expressive and predicts the sweet onslaught.
-Unripe pears also appear in the flavor profile.

250ml bottle bottle from a liquor store in rocky mountain house alberta.
Jet black pour, opaque and viscous, with a dark rocky mocha head. Intense roasty aroma, loads of cocoa, dark coffee, burnt espresso, and some strong soy notes also. The mouth feel is viscous, and luscious, the carb is soft, but fitting. The finish is slightly sweet, with a strong bitter finish. More notes of bitter cocoa, and strong coffee, with loads and loads of roasted dark malts. This is what an imperial stout should be.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Appearance: Dark brown/black with finger thick beige/tan head.
Aroma: Cold coffee, chocolate, liquorice, light fruit cake note, bready, peat note.
Taste: Medium bitterness, low sweetness and low/medium sourness. Slight saltiness.
Palate: Thin smooth texture, light body, low/average carbonation, abrupt, fairly dry, malty cold coffee, fruity finish. Slight alcohol note and subtle warmth.
Comments: Good and glass lace. Rating is for 2013 vintage. A bit young for this one but still got another one left.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Pours inky black with nice creamy head which stays throughout. Aroma is fantastic coffee and hints of smoke, roasted malt. Exhibits medium sweetness on the front with a slight bitterness on the back end. Full bodied and thick with a long finish. Overall a great imperial with a cool history, would definitely try again.

A classic Russian Imperial stout - how can you argue with that when you’re drinking the original?

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Black/brown stout. Honestly a little hard to tell in the darkness of the Khyber Pass. Perhaps it’s fitting the aroma of dark fruit and dark chocolate. Flavor was big prune, raisin, and chocolate. Delicious.

Bottle from Rehills, Newcastle. This inky dark brown-black beer pours with a thin tan head. It has sweet currants and rich red fruity flavours, roasted and chocolate notes with sherrry and red fruit on the finish.
