4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Taste starts with coffee and dark chocolate. Roasted aftertaste. Nice but with the high ABV I would expect more taste and complexity.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
275ml bottle (2012 vintage) at home on 7th April 2016. Poured into ’Gordons’ thistle shaped glass, it is very, very dark, the head a wispy light tan colour. Rich, smooth and boozy with coffee and dark chocolate esters oozing through the brew, raisin like flavours abound with a wild berry undertone. Very drinkable.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
2012 bottle. Pours an inky black with small tan head. Tiny lacing with a slick glass feel. Nose is light roast, chocolate, some hop character, dry fruit. Palate is similar, chocolate, some fruit. No booze. Very balanced. I’m not crazy about this but a nice drinker.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle, 2012 vintage. Black pour with a small light-brown head. Aroma is rich chocolate, some sweet and dark cocoa notes, hints of dark fruit and bread. Tastes like an aged RIS, some nice chocolate, no heat or booziness yet rich and tasty, hints of raisin and coffee. Mostly wanted to try this for the story and the sake of checking it off, but wow, quite tasty.

330ml bottle @ Shrewsbury Beer Share, Feb 16, courtesy of Mike. Many thanks! Pours black with small tan head. Aroma is dusty old dried fruits. Taste is quite lean with smooth light dark fruits and caramel, some chocolate malts, faint liquorice. Decent but rather thin. Would’ve loved to try the original.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Vintage 2013: Pours black, oily, clear, slightly haze, with foamy brown stable head. Visually low carbonation. Aroma: rich dark malts aroma, which takes on espresso coffee, dark chocolate, vanilla, which is overtoped with hop aroma, with notes of plums, prunes and other dark fruits.
Flavor: rich dark malt flavors, with notes of coffee, dark chocolate, with hints of licorice, vanilla, port wine, cognac, oak wood, supported with hop flavors, which takes on dark fruits, especially prunes and plums. Finish is sticky, dry. Alcohol warmth is noticable.
Body is medium to full, texture is soft, carbonation is low.
Simple, delisious archetype of real Russian imperial stout!
