COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
It was October 17, 1814. Meaux’s Horseshoe Brewery located in St. Giles, England was brewing a delicious porter in a very large vat. The vat was is fact 7600 barrels which equals 235,600 gallons! Suddenly, the vat of porter burst wide open washing away the brewery walls and flooding basements all along Bainbridge Street. Eight people died that day from drowning, injury, poisoning by the porter fumes, and drunkenness. So hurry and drink this porter so we can avoid such an unfortunate tragedy!

Pours a deep reddish brown almost black color with almost no apparent carbonation and hence a very small head. The aroma is lightly roasty lightly fruity, lightly everything. The flavor is better indeed with some roasty and earthy hoppy notes with some bitter chocolate.

Draft at the brew pub. Poured an opaque black color with red highlights. Head was tan and thin, but had decent retention. It was served much too cold, so there wasn’t a whole lot of aroma at first other than some sprucy hops. A hint of cholocate came out as it warmed a bit. Still, the aroma wasn’t a show stopper. Tasted of bitter chocolate with a touch of roasty malt. There was also an astringent grassy note at times that detracted somewhat. Mouth feel was on the thin end of the spectrum. So so.
