Bayou Bock is very cloudy and golden (very similar to Dixie- in taste as well, with its sour aspect). Head is off-white and very thin. Carbonation is very high and stinging, but lacing is minimal. Aroma is fruity and sharp, but not strong. The taste is corny, fruity, and mild, with a slight alcohol tone. Mouth-feel is medium. Overall, I liked this beer, but it was not what I’d expected from a bock. But, I did like it. RJT

Aroma of rotten orange, sourdough bread, and some floral. Pours ugly orange juice color with decent carbonation and film. Taste is tangy and bitter with citrus notes and sourdough bread. Definitely not to be repeated.

This is not what I expected from a bock. It pours clear yellow with a small head. The aroma is fruity. The flavor is bitter and fruity sweet with a hop bite. Where are the sweet malts. I like the beer but it’s not a bock.

Bottle. Pours pale golden with a thin, fizzy head. Aroma and flavor are all wrong. Very grainy/corny, too sweet and fruity, a little tart. Not awful, but completely off for the style, in my opinion. This is a screwy beer.

12oz bottle picked up in NO. Hazy yellow-tan, thin white head. The aroma is rather nice and true to style. Doughy, with a touch of noble hops for balance. A little thin and watery, not unlike most beers from the region, but something about this one works for me. Sessionable, not overbearing in any respect. Some light lemony tartness, still fresh. A solid beer, above par for the region. Captures the style, creamy, doughy.

Bottle - pours cloudy yellow with a decent head. Has sort of a fruity aroma to it but that’s about it. Has some sort of aftertaste that I can’t quite figure out what it is but it’s not good.

A: The pour is a fairly hazy golden color with a short lived white head. S: The nose is absolutely sickly sweet. There is a ton of corn and a fair bit of straw. Definitely some grass with only a light bread character, possibly a little bit of garbage. T: The intense sweetness carries over to the palate. Plenty more corn and other vegetables with some of the same straw and grass notes. Just a light bread and malt flavor, and minimal yeast notes. M: This is light bodied with medium carbonation. O: Way too sweet and way too much corn/vegetables.

Malty nose with hint of alcohol. Pours hazy yellow with little head.

Taste is toasty malt with a nice hops back. Lingers nicely on finish with a nice bitterness. All in all is a good brew. Perfect for hot summertime drinking.

Draft at the Mellow Mushroom in Baton Rouge. Right off the bat ... flat. Bright golden, with a musty, malty nose. Given the quality of the staff at this place, I’m not sure whether this may have been an old keg. But I was underwhelmed, unfortunately. (#4034, 12/13/2010)

Beer my neighbor ended up grabbing for me. Pours a light golden yellow with a thin white head, that quickly turns to just a ring of lacing. Aroma is very sweet of cereal grains and a touch of sweaty stink towards the end, leaves you kinda unsure about what is going to happen when you taste this thing. Taste is rather sweet (almost spicy but I know there aren’t any spices in this beer, strange) and grainy, alcohol in noticable. For some reason this one didn’t seem very balanced to me, sweet and sweaty is the best way I can describe it and no, it isn’t that great of a mix and isn’t that good. Very interesting beer, and though I’m not at all familiar with the style this one just seemed very off and weird. Just not for me I guess.
