Cask@St Albans BF. Lightly smoky, caramel/toffee, pretty straight forward and pleasant, nothing outstanding.

Malty aroma. Med brown. Sweet toffee, balanced though a little bit generic. OK.

Bottled bright, from the St. Albans Beer Festival, 2004
Brown body with reddish hue. Strong bitter flavour generously blended with sweet malts. A mish mash of flavours that blur across you palate so that nothing really stands out or impresses.

I’m not quite sure what style to put this down as. The colour is ruddy brown. It has a pleasant, malty, autumnal character, with some flowery hop in the aroma. Quite rich flavour, with dark malt but, again, some uncharacteristic aromatic hop poking through and tree fruits too. Hints of licorice too. In fact, there’s all sorts in the flavour. Bittersweet finish. I don’t know what goes into this beer, but it certainly makes for an interesting, and appealing, tipple. Remus is the name of a Suffolk Punch horse at the Museum of East Anglian Life, close to the brewery by the way. Cask (gravity dispense) at St Albans Beer Festival 2004.
