Aubrey (2549), Denver, Colorado, USA Jun 28, 2008 Light golden-copper. Thinnish head. Malts were toasty, with big caramel and butterscotch sweetness. Some toffee in the background. Plant-like bitterness in the finish. Some citric sourness in the finish and aftertaste. Overall, not necessarily bad, but pretty rough around the edges, with stark/bold flavors bouncing around haphazardly. Crosling (1592), Loveland, Colorado, USA Jun 26, 2008 Light golden color. Full forming foam that diminishes quickly into a thin layer. Nose completely dominated by diacetyl (major butterscotch.) A very light touch of toasted grain and some pine and lemon as well in the nose, but mostly nothing but diacetyl. Diacetyl continues on the palate. It even has the tell tale slickness on the tongue. Flavors of butterscotch and a tiny bit of hop character. Very hard to drink. VitaminR (234), USA May 7, 2008 Sweet caramel toffee nose, some slight citrus notes. Hazy orange, medium frothy head. Nutty caramel biscuit sweetness, good bitterness, pretty solid balance. Good mouth feel, pronounced bready nutty long finish, with enough bitterness to cut through it like slicing bread. Almost like a hoppy pale brown ale? Great beer. Ernest (4171), Boulder, Colorado, USA Oct 20, 2007 GABF 2007. Head is fully diminishing. Body is medium yellow. Aroma is lightly to moderately malty (toasted grain, caramel), lightly hoppy (apricot), with a note of diacetyl. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, lightly to moderately bitter. Light to medium body, watery texture, soft carbonation. Rather strong hit of butter in the nose, and a similarly unpleasant flavor profile. Could use some more tweaking, and more resting time on the yeast. Hopefully things will get ironed out if they end up bottling this one.
