COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The oatmeal stout is brewed with flaked oats, black and chocolate malts, and Perle hops. A medium to full bodied Stout that’s smooth with rich malt character and a roasty finish. Big, deep brown-black color and delicious!

Poured from a 16 oz can. Almost black, small tan head. Very sweet oatmeal caramel milk chocolate raisin nose. Smooth sweet chocolate mocha milkshake flavor, but a medium body helps this from being cloyingly sweet. Roasty dry finish is enjoyable.

can pours a very dark brown with small tan head. Aroma of chocolate, light coffee, plenty of roast. Medium bodied and quite smooth thanks to the oats. Flavor of lightly bittered coffee roast, chocolate tones. Pretty tasty I must say.

Very very dark brown with slight clarity with a foamy but receeding light tan head...persistent though. Smells of smokey milk chocolate and a bowl of fresh oatmeal. The texture is just right with subtle but prickly carbonation, with a nice full body...but not too full. Taste is really great--roasty, dark, sweet, chocolaty, and with a certain dry creaminess like oats.

12oz. bottle, 6.5% abv. Aroma is roasty, lightly coffeeish and sugary, some cocoa and faintly earthy hop in the background. Black in color with deep brown edges when held to the light, head is initially quite foamy, with lasting, light tan bubbles. Flavor profile is a combination of coffee with plenty of sugar packets dumped in, milkshake and kvass, with dark, roasty malts and a lactose-like sweetness throughout, with a somewhat sharp, abrupt bitterness at the finish, mild tangy presence here as well, and even though there is some sweetness present, the finish is bone dry. Rather overactive carbonation at play here, body is light-medium. Some grainy bitterness late, almost on the acrid side. Not really a fan, perhaps the draft version would be an improvement?

Bottle. Head is initially small, frothy, brown, mostly lasting. Body is dark brown to black. Aroma is moderately malty (chocolate syrup, roasted grain, husks), trace hops (apricot), with notes of vanilla and chalk. Flavor is moderately to heavily sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly acidic, moderately bitter, slightly husky. Medium body, syrupy/oily texture, soft carbonation, lightly alcoholic. Ehhh. Pretty clunky. Homebrewish/extract-like, a bit rough and raw. Kinda unpleasant chocolate character. Not horrible but I had no interest in finishing the bottle. With the downfall of the brown and wheat ales, I’ve pretty much lost my faith in this brewer...such promise in the beginning, but I haven’t had anything good in a year or so, esp. the new releases. So sad.

Bottle @ home., Deep brown appearance with a foamy, light brown head. Smells infected Oaty, dark malty, lightly nutty, lightly sour nose. Somewhat sour, pretty oaty, a touch of espresso, slightly nutty flavor. Is this why it was on clearance at Supermarket Liquor in Foco?

draft sample. milk / cream / half-n-half notes on top of chocolate malt, roast, light black patent and chewy/creamy oat. light malt roughness up front gives way to a watery, thin and flabby body in the finish, thinning a surprising amount into a rather dull, quiet and boring finish made up of light roast, oatmeal and chocolate notes, low bitterness and an unwelcome abundance of yeast. not very enjoyable.

12oz bottle. Pours a dark brown with a small creamy brown head that quickly goes to a thin collar that leaves some lacing.

The aroma is sweet perfumey chocolate malts with a little plasticky bitter roast.

The flavor is sweet perfumey chocolate malts with a bitter roast finish. It has a weird plasticky aftertaste. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with smooth carbonation.

Overall, this was not as good as when I’ve had it on draft. It seems that Crabtree can be a bit inconsistent. This bottle had too many off notes to my liking (plastic, char and perfume).

Bottle - pour is dar brown, almost black, with a thin, fizzy tan lace - aroma is equal parts bitter and sweet - baker’s chocolate, vanilla, cream, bitter black malts, roast/char - creamy mouthfeel, full carbonation - surprisingly dr for the style, with considerable roast, a hint of smoke, char and a moderate woodiness - some vanilla sweetness before the lingering finish of bitter chocolate - oat presence is strong on the end, adding a certain earthiness - pretty good, but a bit overly bitter.
