3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 GAManiac (1944) - Atlanta, Georgia, USA - OCT 4, 2008
Pours a dark, dark brown out of the bottle with a small, rocky tan head that hung around for a little while with no lacing. The smell is dominated by roasted malts with hints of both coffee and smoke. The taste is much sweeter than the aroma would indicate and has a sizable caramel malt backbone with a noticeable smoky roasted character. Mouthfeel is creamy but with strong carbonation. I really enjoyed this beer though I would put it a notch below the smoked lager from Craft.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 WISEGUY572 (1373) - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - JUL 22, 2008
Almost black, not opaque, with reddish tones, good head, great lace. Nose of coffee, chocolate, and smoke. Taste of sweet malts, burnt malts, caramel, burnt coffee, chocolate. Mouth average ... it is, after all, a lager.
3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Beerlando (3342) - Orlando, Florida, USA - JUL 20, 2008
Draft at the brewpub in Athens. The body is a clear, dark, chestnut brown color with crimson highlights. A small, foamy, tan colored head leaves random flares of sudsy lacing on the glass. The aroma showcases scorched caramel malts, molasses, indiscernible dark fruits, cocoa, and earthy, bitter hops. The flavor follows those same lines, with perhaps a touch of day-old coffee lending further bitterness. Very earthy overall. Medium bodied and smooth, finishing quite dry. Solid beer, and second only to the smoked lager amongst the Craft brews that I got to try.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 11/20 aru (105) - Smørum, DENMARK - JUL 20, 2008
Black appearance with light brown head. Notes of burned chocolate with a rich full palette. An OK beer.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 KnutAlbert (5186) - Oslo, NORWAY - APR 18, 2008
Draft at the brewpub in Athens.
Dark with a golden glow. Beige head.
A whiff of smoke, a little liquorice. Coffee, burned toast.
Easy drinking and refreshing, but with full flavour. The Greeks don’t make them better than this!
2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 6/20 ChrisThomson (522) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - AUG 19, 2007
Athens, 07. Tried these beers as a tasters sample at the brew pub. All beers much better than the beer available in 99% of the bars in Athens, but nothing fantastic. This one was the best of the bunch, nice big roasted coffee malt taste.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 mabel (5043) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - JUN 28, 2007
[322-20070525] Tap @ Craft (Athens). Sweet malty coffee aroma. Dark brown red body with a quick white head. Sweet molasses toffee cream flavour. Medium-full body is creamy. Expecting thicker but smooth and silky was great.
3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20 TheGrandMaster (2335) - Auckland, NEW ZEALAND - JUN 4, 2007
Draught, tasted at the brewpub, dark with little head. A sweet toffee and coffee aroma. Quite strong carbonation, but also a strong roasted coffee flavour. A bit weak on the palate though.
3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Spiesy (2338) - Sydney, Greater London, AUSTRALIA - SEP 4, 2005
Draft, at Craft Bar, Athens, Greece. </br>
Black with a foaming dark brown head. This looks and smells all the world like a stout, only the texture and palate are more consistent with that of a larger. Rich coffee, tobacco and bridle leather aroma. Really nice beer to finish on.
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 Nightfall (1280) - Hamburg, GERMANY - JUL 4, 2005
UPDATED: JUL 28, 2009 One of the six beers that Craft produces (Craft is a fine Microbrewery that also has 2 Brewpub Restaurants in Athens). Very good schwarzbier, the best that craft makes. Brown shallow head. Full taste with chocolate, smoke, coffee and roasted malt as dominant flavors and aromas. A great beer that I love to consume on a regular basis. The tap version is way better than the bottle.
