3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Scored a bottle of this while in Rhodes. I love schwarzbiers and this was a pretty good one. Pours a translucent black (surprise) with a thin white head. Aroma is a little absent though, some light toast, maybe a little faint coffee, a touch nutty. Flavor was nice though, nutty, malty, bready, crackers, biscuits and a little bit of toast. Not much hop presence to speak of. Finish was dry and crisp. I enjoyed this quite a bit.

2.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20
September 2008: This brewery doesnít mess around with fancy names. The four fonts on offer at the only bar Iíve seen this beer at were: Lager, Black Lager, Red Ale and Weiss Bier.
Poured into the breweries own glassware, this beer was jet black with a good tan head on top. It looked impressive sat next to the nuts and warming in the early evening sun by the harbour in Chania, Crete.
The aroma was all about roasted and burnt malts, as was the taste. Sadly it was just like drinking a watered down, fizzy Porter or Stout. There was no creaminess or rich body to it at all. It was a lager, but black and with a smell (unlike most lagers).
The beer just didnít feel right, it looked so wholesome and inviting, but failed to live up to its looks. It was too fizzy and lacked body.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Draft at the brewpub in Athens. The body is a clear, dark, chestnut brown color with crimson highlights. A small, foamy, tan colored head leaves random flares of sudsy lacing on the glass. The aroma showcases scorched caramel malts, molasses, indiscernible dark fruits, cocoa, and earthy, bitter hops. The flavor follows those same lines, with perhaps a touch of day-old coffee lending further bitterness. Very earthy overall. Medium bodied and smooth, finishing quite dry. Solid beer, and second only to the smoked lager amongst the Craft brews that I got to try.

[bottle at RBESG 2009, Grand Tasting]
Weak aroma of toasted almonds and smoke. Clear red-brown under tan bubbles. Tons of caramel in the flavour along with lots of toastiness and only detectable hops. Light to medium body clean finish, if a bit smoky.
