BlackHaddock (1709) - Shropshire, ENGLAND - MAY 14, 2012
One of four beers on tap from this brewery offered at a habour side bar in Chania, Crete during September 2008. Poured into a vase shapped brewery logo’ed glass. It was a glowing reddy brown colour in the afternoon sunlight, clear and clean looking. A smallish cream head sat on top. The beer was cold (the weather hot), so it was difficult to pick up any huge aromas. I did detect some caramel and possibly some hops too. The caramel I’d found in the aroma came through into the taste, but it wasn’t a sweet tasting beer by any means. Crisp and refreshing with a medium body feel to it. Although it was just what I needed at the time, it wasn’t/isn’t a great beer that I must have again. In fact I didn’t have another one while staying on Crete, so that tells it’s own story.

dreadnord (320) - Castel Volturno, ITALY - MAR 31, 2012
Pours dark copper with red hues of light peaking through. Small white head recedes quickly. Nose is banana, gummy bears and dark fruit. Flavor doesn’t follow the nose, slightly sweet and slightly bitter with neither one really standing out. I would call it balance but the watered down aspect is taking away from anything enjoyable in the flavor. Mouthfeel is crisp and lively. Medium length aftertaste. Not great by any means, however consider where it comes from. Hats off to Greece for taking a step up.

330 ml shared bottle, provided by our beerpal Jan Magnus. ABV is 4.5%. Beautiful ruby colour, moderate off-white head. Pleasant vinous aroma, hints of caramel. Nice medium sweet flavour, notes of red berries and toffee, moderate hops.

Scopey (1659) - Croydon, Greater London, ENGLAND - NOV 1, 2011
Keg at Craft Brewery, Athens. It pours deep ruby red, with a big beige head. The nose is tangy fruit, raisin, plum, pine, brown bread and yeast. The taste is wood, light resin, citrus, grapefruit, cardboard, plum and raisin, with a light bitter finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. Nice.

Davros (1022) - Melbourne, AUSTRALIA - SEP 28, 2011
Pours brown with a large, fading head. Nose shows rich toasty melanoidin malt, very sweet and syrupy. Not complex but pleasant. Very similar flavours, lots of toasty and syrupy malt. Body seems a bit thick and oily, could use more carbonation. A bit plain but still enjoyable.

Hermod (1687) - Vantaa, FINLAND - SEP 26, 2011
33cl bottle from supermarket in Platanias, Crete. BBE 09/2011. Poured murky brown with a thin head. Sweet malty, caramel and some hops as well in aroma. Felt flat, not very fresh anymore. Flavor is bready malt, yeast and some dry bitterness. This fresh from tap would probably be quite enjoyable.

NosirIwont (1586) - Aalborg Vestby, DENMARK - SEP 9, 2011
Bottle. Pours a clear, deep golden amber/brow nwith a big, fluffy beige head. Decent lacing. Aroma is a well balanced blend of malt and hops. Notes of bread in the background. Flavour is sweetish and malty with hops in the background. As it warms, the malt takes on a bread-like note and a touch of tartness appears. Mildly bitter finish with a malt and hop blend that matches the one found in the aroma. Lingering dryness. Mild carbonation which makes it feel a wee bit cloying. Overall well-made, bit it’s just that bit cloying. 27.08.11.
