Blue Honey Melomel is a semi-sweet melomel mead that is crafted with 100% raw Ohio wildflower honey, farm raised Great Lakes blueberries, water, and yeast. This blueberry melomel is then aged on French oak staves for 3 months to provide added depth and complexity. Make sure to store away an extra bottle for later because this mead ages wonderfully.

750ml bottle. A fairly sweet mead, Blueberry flavor is lacking to me, covered by the honey and oak flavors.

Bottle to taster at Big Beers & Barleywines 2013. Looks good; a still and fully transparent light bluish red color (likely from the blueberries). Smells of honey and light blueberries. Tastes like it smells with an average mouthfeel. Not bad.

Sample at the Hoppin’ Frog Tasting Room. Pours a clear rosé wine color with a minimal head and slight legs. Aroma of blueberries and honey. Full-bodied and somewhat syrupy with flavors of mildly tart blueberry, honey and spice. The finish is fruity with a blueberry and oak aftertaste. Decent Mead overall.

Pours light with some ruby tones coming through. Aroma is honey and light oak. Flavor is nice sweet honey up front. Hints of oak come through with sweet berry notes that turn lightly tannic. My favorite of the three I tried. These guys show good promise!

2/13/13. Sample from a distro. Light honey wine pour with a touch of purple in there. Lightly sweet aroma with a touch of blueberry, honey, and some wine aspects. The oak adds a buttery vanilla kick to the aroma that sort of makes it smell like blueberry muffins. Sweet flavor with a touch of blueberry, honey, sweet white wine, and again that vanilla buttery aspect. Tasty!

Red wine aromas with oak and berries on the nose. Pours pink. Rich oak tannins and berry notes very red wine like. Very good!
