Pollinator is a dry hopped (cascades) spiced blackberry hydromel. Pistils of Pollinator are crafted in honor of the industrious honey bees. Responsible for over one-third of the world’s food supply they have worked thanklessly through the ages. Threatened today by Colony Collapse Disorder and other man-made threats, the weight of the world is getting a little heavier for the honey bee. Bottle thanks to peter. Nose is moderately fruity but lacks honey expression. Some grassy notes. Taste is very fruit forward with lemon forward notes too. Citrus notes are very prominent even over the blackberry. Really good but the blackberry seems to be a secondary thought.

Complaining that mead is still, now that’s funny. This is pretty nice stuff. Lightly pink rosé tone, bright clarity. Aroma is pretty light and mild, vague honey and berry. Taste is the highlight, tart blackberry, mildly fruity, mildly sweet. Finished with little residual sweetness. Crisp and clean, wish there was some Cascade aroma but overall it tastes great.

Draft to taster. Looks solid; a transparent light cherry with white lacing and no visible carbonation. Smells of honey and mild blackberry. The first whiff was body odor, but maybe it was a passer by? It got better, but never to the point of good. Tastes like it smells with a medium-bodied mouthfeel. Not bad, but soft and underwhelming.

500 ml bottle poured into a brandy snifter. The mead is a clear red color with no sign of carbonation. There was just a slight hiss when I popped the cap. The aroma has perfumy berries and unripe blackberry notes. When i say unripe, i mean mostly green still. Not even sour. A little bit peppery. Lighter and airy in body. It’s a still mead, so no fizz on the tongue. Just slick across the tongue.

First thing I noticed about this was no sound when I opened the bottle and it was indeed flat.. For that the aroma and appearance would have been better, but now not exactly bad. Appearance is a clear pink red brick. Aroma is spicy berry honey. Flavor’s similar to nose, somewhat bittersweet, honey is definitely in the background, no hops I can pick up; no off flavors. Really not bad, but I think would have been so much better. Same thing with body. A pity I ended up with a flat bottle.

Shared 500 ml. bottle poured to snifters, displaying a clear & bright, rosy color, with some bubbles that quickly dissipated to an expected, non-existent head, and a light, syrupy coating that showed some leggy spots on the glass. The nose offered a bit of alcohol presence, berries, hops?, and a light, chemical scent. The taste recovered with expressive berry flavor which I didn’t necessarily sense as blackberry, and honey sweetness, in a medium body, with slight, but inviting spritziness on the tongue. Any hop influence may have been present in the aroma, but not noticed, or disguised in the taste. A tasty, cordial-like drink, nonetheless.
