dukefan (165), Chicago, Illinois, USA Apr 20, 2005 This was quite the unique beer. Like many of Craftsman beers you imagine some mad beer scientist trying all kinds of different things until suddenly "poof" a new invention. I can’t imagine anyone else mixing cabernet grapes and beer and making it so good. A combination of cabernet flavoring (dark hearty grape) mixed in with classic amber characteristics (malty and sweet).
Dogbrick (2266), Columbus, Ohio, USA Jul 31, 2008 On draught at O’Brien’s in San Diego. This beer pours a deep reddish-purple color with a medium thin and fizzy pinkish head that burns away steadily. Spotty lacing on the chalice. Vinous aroma with notes of sweet malt in the background. Medium, dry body with tart cabernet grape and malt flavors, along with a bit of spice. The finish is fruity with a lingering fermented grape aftertaste. Interesting and pretty enjoyable overall. Oakes (6979), Miami Beach, Florida, USA May 27, 2008 Purplish colour with a thick purple head. Rich cab nose with light beeriness and some pepper. Dry and hugely vinous - a big expressive beer. Nice round beery body, finishing very dry with a huge grapey character. Crisp, fruity finish. Beershine (1440), Miami Beach, Florida, USA May 3, 2008 Bottle, special from brewery. Bright magenta with corresponding pink head. A slight bit of sourness in the nose, distinct wine aromas. Flavors are especially grapey with a bit of fun funkiness. Slight yeastiness in finish. Loads of potential in this artistic brew. goldtwins (3740), Nesconset, New York, USA Feb 18, 2008 Tap @ PP Carlsbad. Poured a slightly hazed deep red color with an off-white head. The aroma was vinous with red wine notes. Vinous Cabernet flavor from the middle to the finish. Sweet fruity malt start. Light to medium body. Hairofthedog (417), San Diego, California, USA Feb 9, 2008 At Liar’s Club on tap. The aroma was thin and fruity with hints of caramel and grapes. The beer poured a beautiful reddish purple color with thin head and thin lasting lacing. The flavor was vinious and malty with awesome sweet cab grapes and caramel/molasses. The mouthfeel was light to medium bodied with great carbonation. Really nice beer.
