Felt like a cross between a good porter and a Belgian dark. Malts were toasty and thick with moderate sweetness, palate was bold, finish had hints of spices.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
On tap at Beer Revolution. It pours black with a tan head. The aroma has lots of black cherry, raisins, blueberry, cocoa and roasted malt. The flavor is black cherry, cola, dark chocolate and roasty toasty malts. Very nice velvety mouthfeel. I would have called this an imperial stout, although a very weird one with lots of dark berry flavors. A very enjoyable sipper to say the least.

Dark brown pour with an off-white head. Nose is quite roasty with some dark chocolate and coffee notes. A bit of metal and slightly tart. Quite heavy on the char, too. Not much sweetness to the aroma of flavor. Tastes a bit smoky. Lots of char, roasted malt, and dark chocolate. Hints of metal, coffee, and chalk.

4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
On tap at Small Bar, San Diego.
Rating as a Russian Imperial Stout, not an American Strong Ale.
Aroma: Nose is bourbon, oak, vanilla, yeast.
Appearance: Black pour, thin tan head, good lace.
Taste: Nicely muted bourbon flavor, vanilla, cocoa, a little earthy.
Palate: Medium-full, nicely carbonated for the style.
Overall: Really good. I was a little leery after catching the bourbon nose, but this was really well crafted, the bourbon nose accentuating the base stout without overwhelming it as many of these do.
