On draft. Wow, I was really blown away by this one. It pours cloudy yellow with a thick white head. The aroma is fresh wheat with some clove, cinnamon and pepper. Baking spice. The flavor is the same with some mild acidity that really makes the flavors pop. Smooth body and a great crisp finish. One of the best American made hefeweizen I’ve had.

On tap at Spring Street Bar in downtown LA Dec. 10th. Excellent example of a hefeweizen throughout. Nice deep golden cloudy with spices and fruits on the nose. What’s great about this hefe is you can tell everything is quality, with moderates of everything. A hefe should not be overbearing, and this one stops just short of being such. Great beer!

Tap at Haven gastropub in Pasadena. Pours full haze, glowing straw with medium white foam. Good lacing. Nose is cidery, fresh yellow apple, low on those banana esters. Something gamey is here too like sage and pine. Taste is yellow apple skin and starfruit. More fresh cider in profile.. Palate is refreshing. Does it’s job well being a hefeweizen without the typical banana esters.

Pours yellow-orange wit a deccent white head with nice lacing. Aroma is of sweet wheat, yeast, cloves, some bubble gum, and some light citrus notes. Taste is of sweet wheat, cloves, some citrus, light bubble gum, and some nice spices. Has a medium body with a nice creamy mouthfeel and a semi, sweet, refreshing finish. Overall, a very nice, and refreshing hefe that hit the spot on the hottest day of the year in San Diego.

On tap at Monk’s Kettle for a Craftsman dinner. Another well made beer from Craftsman with golden color and great white head. Full aroma of bananas. The flavor does not follow through as well, but a decent offering.

A: The pour is an intensely hazy and turbid golden yellow with a big white head that settles down to a finger’s worth. S: There’s a pretty nice banana and clove aroma which is an appreciated departure from the usual American "hefeweizen" that is actually just a crappy pale wheat beer. A nice sweet wheat aroma, and even a bit of wheat flour. T: Taste is pretty much the same as the nose would let on. Perhaps a bit on the sweet side and lacking a bit on the esters, but still good. A touch of bubblegum, banana, and a solid amount of clove. Lots of sweet, wheat bread, too. M: The body is medium with a smooth, medium carbonation. D: I think I preferred the 1903 lager, but this was pretty good too and certainly easy to drink.
