UPDATED: MAR 12, 2011 On tap at Stone Sourfest. Pours with a hazy golden hue and a small white head. Aroma of raisins, and light tart grape. Taste is much the same with raisins, grapes grape and a light funk. Light carbonation.
re-rate: hazy red with an off white head. Aromas are sour with pie cherries and red wine. Flavors are bing cherries, red wine barrel, leather and a persistent funk.

Cloudy, orange-brown. Lots of wood and wine, surprisingly low in the sourness department in both the aromas and the flavors which was a bit of a letdown but otherwise this brewer can do no wrong.

UPDATED: MAY 5, 2010 Clear Amber color with lacey froth. Subtle sour nose. Palate is on the weak side, but clean. Unfortunately, this is one of those beers that leaves me with pretty much nothing to say. The beer completely lacks inspiration word inducements...which sucks from a rating standpoint. I dig craftsman and Marc as a brewer, but this is on the boring side.

On tap at stone. Pours a hazy orangish yellow, with white head. Nice aroma, sourness, bread, and tart apple. The flavor is not quite as good. Light fruit, sour apple, hints of cherry, grain, and a little wood. Not to complex or sour. Mediocre sour ale.

Hazy reddish-brown. Lightly tart, fruity but overall not much nose. Tart palate, some fresh yoghurty character. Hints of wood, big vinous notes and a late flourish of alcohol. Pleasant balsamic notes at the very end.

On tap at Toro SD. Clear copper with a one finger creamy beige head, fair retention. Aroma is composed of a little acetic acid, stale pale malts, hints of biscuits, and cherries of the duchess bourgogne variety. Flavor has fresher cherries and some dusty yeast, the skins coming through more towards the finish. Otherwise much the same. No alcohol presence, sourness peaked at a 2, bitterness at a 3. Medium body with light carbonation. Not a fan.

Tap at Lucky Baldwin’s. Not done well for a Sour. Aroma starts off boring with no yeast or grass notes, only a watery, floury tart smell. Flavor’s top notes are thin, young, and tartly cherry; the immediate bottom notes are rusty, grainy malt and are unpleasant. No balance, no midbody. I love Craftsman but this is not their best.
