Many drafts (gallons) at Beachwood BBQ. Aroma is minimal. Opaque or nearly so. Taste is of fresh oysters. Very good. Palate is creamy even the bottom of the keg. Grab a local oyster stout - no comparison to the bottled DOA imports.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 womencantsail (3928) - Home of Rebecca Black, California, USA - JUL 24, 2011
A: The pour is a very dark brown color with a finger of tan head.
S: Strangely heavy on the graham cracker and vanilla aromas. A touch of butter and a definite saltiness. Mild to moderate roasted malt notes and a hint of milk chocolate.
T: There is a slight briney character with a nice bit of roast. Still a lot of graham cracker and vanilla along with some milk chocolate. Light pepper notes on the back end.
M: Light to medium in body with a medium carbonation.
O: One of the better Crafstman beers I’ve had of late. Oyster stouts aren’t a terribly popular style, but I thought this was a pretty decent example.
3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 CaptainCougar (6834) - Columbia, Maryland, USA - FEB 24, 2010
On cask at San Diego Real Ale Fest, Carlsbad (6/12/09) as O’ Stout: Pours a barely transparent dark blackish mahogany with a frothy well-lacing beige head. Aroma of dry toasty cardboard and black malt (not as bad as it sounds). Body starts with average fullness and mild dark chocolate character with a faint grainy sweetness and a touch of sea salt. Pretty smooth finish and very true to style.

On tap at Pizza Port San Clemente’s Session Ale fest 2009, this dark brown pour had a nice roasty flavor with some good complexity. It was very easy drinking.

On cask at Beachwood BBQ. Pours with a large, creamy tan head over a black body. Great lacing. Aroma of chocolate, salty, tangy, lactose and lightly spicy. Taste is exotic nuts, toffee, chocolate, salty and coconut. Typical cask creamy mouthfeel and light bubbles. Very different and pretty good.
