4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 v1rgil (150) - Burnaby, British Columbia, CANADA - MAR 9, 2011
from tap at St. Augustine’s. Going through the reviews I think the recipe changes/has evolved. There was nothing simple about the brew. Tastes pure. Medium dark in color, medium head, more coffee with a hint of chocolate in the middle of the taste and a nice sweet oaty finish. Very good. Try it.

Draft at Rogue Wet Bar in Vancouver. Decent coffee stout. Some carbonation. Not overly impressive, but passable.
3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 ArchieCrisis (6) - USA - SEP 12, 2010 does not count
Chocolate. That pretty much sums up this one. It’s like carbonated chocolate milk. Chocolate on the nose, chocolate on the body, chocolate on the aftertaste. It’s not that it’s bad, it’s just there is zero complexity here. Poured a dark brown/black, very thin and quickly dissipating head. Drinkable and enjoyable but nothing to write home about. Ordered on tap at The Pourhouse in Vancouver.
3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 piscator34 (1801) - Winnipeg, Manitoba, CANADA - AUG 23, 2010
Growler sample. Near black in colour wtih moderate carbonation. Aromas are of semi-sweet chocolate chips, a bit of char, and a yeast derived fruit note. Still more of the chocolate chip thing going on in the mouth, along with some caramel malt, nutty pale malts, mint, and chalk. Medium to light bodied with a powder dry finish. Very much in the dry Irish style, with an amped up chocolate tone. Pretty easy drinking stuff.
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 manuchampions (1217) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - AUG 9, 2010
Sampled at Village Taphouse in West Vancouver. Deep, cola brown with thick tan head. Aroma is slightly sweet, roasted malt, coffee. Tastes of roast, nutty malt, slightly thin in mouthfeel. Some coffee. Finish dies off quickly. Decent.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 fiulijn (12360) - Malmö, DENMARK - MAY 19, 2010
Draught at Raven Pub, North Vancouver Black color, creamy head. Ashes and burnt malt aroma. Quite smooth mouthfeel; strong chocolate, burnt malt and coffee flavor; dry middle and final; correct bitterness. Simple but well balanced, and luckily the burnt component is not too disturbing in the final.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 swoopjones (4326) - Buffalo, New York, USA - MAR 2, 2010
Tap @ Alibi Room, Vancouver. Dark pour, decent head, nice lacing. Solid roasted malt aroma. Medium body. Pretty basic dry Irish stout but a solid beer
3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 PWheatley (119) - , Quebec, CANADA - JAN 7, 2010
On tap at the Raven in Deep Cove. The glass was too cold for proper tasting, but the head was thin and non existant fairly quickly. Flavour is a tad thin and fizzy kind of boring nutty flavour and watery finish. Not a strong stout but passable.

UPDATED: JUL 12, 2011 On tap at the Alibi Room - pours black with a thin head. Aroma is chocolate, roasted malt and coffee. Palate is similar, with a smooth creamy mouthful and little bitterness. Very solid.
