We bring in the hops for this brew from New Zealand, where locals use the term “Boohai” to describe being thoroughly lost in a remote or non-existant place far from civilization. To us, that sounded like a pretty good place to be. These unique hops present a noticeable aroma of blackberries, Sauvignon Blanc grapes and pine which come together nicely with a complex blend of Belgian malts to make a deep, yet sublimely pleasant beer.

Sampled from the can at ABR 2015. Pours a slightly hazy amber gold with a near white head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has notes of grain, bread, light grass and a hint of light fruits. Flavor has notes of grain and bread with a bit of earthiness supporting.

Red pour with a slight off white head. My first take was: ugh this is old and oxidized. Then I read the can and realized it’s not just a hoppy red but an odd hoppy red. Some fruit and oak astringency with some bitterness in the finish. Kind of an odd profile of flavors that clash with the malt. Cool to try.

12 ounce can. Pours an unclear copper with a thin beige head. Taste is of malt, caramel, hops, pine, resin, raisins and wheat. Similar aroma. Has a mostly full body with a fruity and boozy finish Overall a good beer.

Can. A- Blackberry, butter, pine, toast. A- Orange color, hazy liquid, white head. T- Blackberries, pine, slightly bitter, malty. P- Medium body, average texture, average carbonation, slightly bitter finish. O- Sure, it’s an amber ale, but it’s an amber ale with a bit of character! The pine adds a nice bitterness to it but not over done, then you get the blackberries, or maybe not that but some nice fruity nose and palate that is very subtle yet pleasing. Also a random bit of butter to it. And it worked well. Not bad, not bad at all.

Can at Örebro Ölcafé. Fruity smell with an aroma that I have a hard time pinpointing. I think it’s gooseberry, white wine and blackberry. Similar taste, malty and hoppy. A bit buttery. Very smooth and easy to drink.

Can. Clear, copper amber color with a decent head. Aroma is a tad weak with a fruity pine smell. Taste was also weak, a citrus kind of taste. Just an average brew.

Pours a light copper color, with a light malt aroma that had a hint of blueberry. Taste is similar, with a minor clean blueberry flavor and a very light pine aftertaste.

Hazy reddish orange, not much head. Smells caramel and citrusy. Tastes caramel and citrusy. I am out of things to say about this beer.

355ml can. Hazy Ruby / copper, creamy yellowish head. No greater aroma, slightly caramel sweet, malty aroma. The flavor starts sweet and turns quickly to bitter herbs and pine. Creamy liquid, missing hops flavors, lacks balance.
