COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This mutt of a beer is truly unique, just like its name’s origin. Cara de Luna comes from a childhood nickname that founder Marisa’s dad came up with to describe her incredibly round and full face. The phrase is Spanish for "Face of the Moon." We take German hops, Belgian Malt, and American yeast to make this Black German Pale Ale. A light mouthfeel lends itself to the soft maltiness and distinct smooth hop character. Leaving convention behind, this beer paves its own path....just like Marisa and her big ol’ face.

Bomber from Whole Foods in Davis, CA. Pours very dark brown with a foamy tan head. Aroma is mix of chocolate, Belgian yeast/spice, dark malt. Med body, almost. Flavor is schwarzbier with extra chocolate, burnt malt, and a decent level of what might be herbal hop. Pretty tasty, tho if counted as porter it might be a bit off. Finishes towards dry, with some mild bitter.

22oz from Grass Valley, CA. Points for style on this one. It’s a third pale ale, a third schwarzbier, and a third sweet Belgian! Surprisingly all comes together fairly well for a very easy drinking malty sweet and roasty sessionable libation!

Tap at bricks. Rosy black with thin light mocha head. Nose is sweet, molasses, light roasted malt, vanilla. Taste is roasted and charred malt and oak. Light vanilla and cream. Body is light, watery, light carbonation.

22 oz bottle from Wilburs. Black with a frothy tan head that lasts. Malty toasted aroma with light earthy hops and chocolate. Light to medium with a soft smooth feel. A little on the sweet side, but still enjoyable and easy to drink.

Bottle. Head is initially average sized, frothy, brown, mostly lasting. Body is dark brown to black. Aroma is moderately malty (coffee, roasted grain, dark chocolate), lightly hoppy (herbs), with a note of vanilla, light note of lemon zest. Flavor is moderately to heavily sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly acidic, moderately bitter. Medium body, velvety/syrupy texture, lively carbonation, lightly alcoholic. The description on the bottle is rather misleading (black German pale what the fuck?)...German, Belgian, and American ingredients ended up creating a British-style beer...a porter/stout by pretty much anyone’s reckoning. Not that I’m complaining, and the brewery does admit it’s a bit of a monster. The nose is quite pleasant and I’m surprised there isn’t coffee in it. In the mouth, it’s too sweet and a little too syrupy, which makes it hard to enjoy drinking much of it. It probably wouldn’t take much tweaking to make this one a real winner, actually...good potential here, just as with the Hookiebobb.

Bomber poured a clear dark reddish brown with a lingering ring of tan foam. Aromas of roasted malt, cocoa and light vanilla. Palate was medium bodied and smooth. Flavors of roasted malt, cocoa and vanilla with a smooth lingering cocoa finish.

On tap at Craft and Growler. Pours a dark brown to black color. The aroma and flavor have a lot of dark fruit notes, as well as some lightly roasted malt. As the beer warms the cherry notes really start to come out. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation. Not bad at all.

On tap at Capitol Beer, Sacramento. Pours near black with a thick tan head and a chocolate and coffee aroma. There is a rich chocolate malt flavor with a dry finish.

Sampled on tap at Crazy Mountain on 12/27/12. Pours a deep brown color with off white head. Really nice aroma. Roasty, chocolate, malty, brown sugar, slight burnt flavors. Hell Yeah

22 oz bomber pours an opaque black with a tan head. Astringent aroma with some dark malts, caramel, and light hoppiness. A bit of a medicinal bite to it. Flavor is pretty earthy, grassy, with a bit of dark malty astringency. Seems more like a dry stout than a porter.
