4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
On tap @ Brewery. Enjoyed it as part of their flight. Plenty of orange zest and grapefruity-ness. Suprisingly citric/hoppy for a barley wine, but very enjoyable overall. Best beer of theirs.

2.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
Can. Caramel nose, sugary sweet. Light cloudy copper color, small thin head. Thick caramel initial flavor. Somewhat fizzy in mid palate, with a bit of hops rising. Light toffee, sweetish finish. Medium body. Bit of hop buzz. Nothing much here, beyond the caramel. To continue the lyric from the Warren Zevon song, "get me out of this."

2.1 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20
Head is initially average sized, frothy, white, mostly diminishing.
Body is medium amber.
Aroma is lightly malty (grain), moderately to heavily hoppy (grapefruit, resin), with notes of soured/fermenting fruit juice, gum, cotton candy, alcohol.
Flavor is moderately to heavily sweet, moderately acidic, lightly to moderately bitter.
Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, moderately acidic, moderately to heavily bitter, slightly unclean.
Medium to full body, watery/syrupy texture, lively carbonation, moderately to heavily alcoholic.
Pretty awful, really...this is more like a clumsy DIPA, overhopped and acrid and pruno-scented. No fun to smell or drink. Should be a red flag that the commercial description suggests adding candy sugar (to crystal malt of all things) would give it a "hearty maltiness". LOL.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
12 ounce can into snifter, no canning date. Pours lightly hazy/cloudy orange/copper color with a 1 finger dense off white head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with some light streaming carbonation. Aromas of big grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, lemon zest, orange peel, citrus rind, pine, caramel, toasted bread, light toffee, floral, grass, and floral/toasted earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of big citrus/pine hops and moderate dark/bready malt notes; with good strength. Taste of big grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, lemon zest, orange peel, citrus rind, pine, caramel, toasted bread, light toffee, floral, grass, and floral/toasted earthiness. Good amount of pine/citrus rind bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, lemon/orange peel, citrus rind, pine, caramel, toasted bread, and floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a while. Very nice balance and complexity of citrus/pine hops and moderate dark/bready malt flavors; with a good malt/bitterness balance and no cloying flavors after the finish. Light carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a very smooth, sticky, and lightly bready mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a light warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very nice American Barleywine style. All around good complexity and balance of big citrus/pine hops and moderate dark/bready malt flavors; and very smooth to sip on for the big ABV. A very enjoyable offering.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Gorgeous amber pour. An inkling of a foamy white head. Spicy, fresh hops, plums, and white sugar on the nose. Good flavors. Very drinkable for the ABV. Pine, sweet malt, deep fruit. I don't like this much hop presence in a barley wine, but it is a delicious beverage.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
12 oz can from Biggie Wine & Liquors. Cloudy burnt orange appearance with a small beige head and sticky lacing. Aroma of caramel malts, toffee, fruity esters, candy sugar, bread, piney hops and light citrus. Similar flavor, rich, fruity and malty with mild sweetness and light bitterness. Medium to full body with a smooth, creamy feel and soft carbonation. The alcohol is pretty well hidden, making this lightly hopped barley wine pretty easy to drink.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Enjoyed at gabf 2014. It pours with a nice deep clear gold body that supports a light tan head of foam. The aroma offers up malts, a dash of sort of grainy malts and then faint pine hoppiness. The taste come across kind of malty and then a little doughy with a quick spike of sweet dark fruity esters that seem a tad out of place. And then it gets very pine like amid all of the sweetness and bit of fruity esters that are going on midway and into the finish. This is an interesting barleywine but it lacks a bit of harmony as the brighter esters don’t meld all that well with the other notes. I’m guessing this will improve with age.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
12 oz. can. Pours a thin off white head, over a dark amber (SRM 15) body, nose is light pine, resin, sweet notes, balance to the hops....taste is slightly sweet, light fruit notes, finish is bitter with pine, resin, balance to the hops.....mouth feel, medium body, alcohol warmth present, slight acidity, low carbonation. This is a simple Barley Wine, with alcohol and hops dominating. It is more of an I/DIPA than a Barley Wine. BJCP 7/3/12/3/6

2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Thanx Gary for bringing this one to me.
Can to chalice: the appearance was a hazy red/copper color with a one finger off white foamy head that died to a film after a good minute.
The smell had some sweet caramel malts, with a dank and resinous hoppiness backed up by a light dark fruitiness. As it warmed, I think there was some brown sugar here and there.
The taste had a generous sweetness about the caramel and toffee. As it warmed, there was some light fruit that bled into a fairly big resiny hop finish.
On the palate, this one sat right about at a medium with a decent carbonation about it. The ABV wasn’t really felt for the most part.
Overall, honestly as a barleywine, uh...really, did I just have a really old can? What are you giving me Gary? I see no dates anywhere. To me, average.
