3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 SamGamgee (2452) - down the whirlpool, USA - AUG 22, 2011
Draught at the brewpub. Dark red/brown color with a light beige head. Light american hops and chocolate malt over a bit of toasty caramel in the aroma. The flavor is also a blend of ample hops, dry chocolate malt, and light caramel. Bitterness is pretty modest overall, and the finish shows a surprising amount of chocolate malt. Pretty clean fermentation, without much yeast character. Hops are there but I wouldn’t really put this in the "hoppy red" category, and there isn’t dominating dark crystal malt either. Chocolate is the quality that sticks out the most to me, but seems to separate from the rest of the flavors to move this into brown ale territory. Interesting.

Typical amber with some caramel sweetness and very light hops. On the light side with mild carbonation. Pretty weak beer.
3.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20 brewersspot (97) - , California, USA - OCT 28, 2010
I had this beer a while back and from what I can remember I enjoyed it. I’ve had this at the pub/brewery so it was fresh.
Nothing special about it is popping into my head at the moment.
