On tap at the brewery, served in a tasting glass. Pours clear caramel-amber with a small, fluffy white head that fades to a few bubbles and leaves a trace of lace. On the nose are subtle herbal hops, along with caramel malts, grain and a touch of earth. The flavour is balanced between moderate malty sweetness and noble hoppiness. Grains, herbs and earth are present throughout. The finish is moderate in length with herbal hops. On the palate, it is light-medium in body with a dryish texture and soft, minimal carbonation. Overall, this is a decent altbier, but it could be more malty with a smoother body. It is quite drinkable but the grain bill could be improved. 2012-08-25

[4776-20120914] Tap. Mildly toasted straw petrol aroma. Clear, bright orange gold body with a small long-lasting creamy light grey head. Straw toasted grains flavour. Medium body. Average. (6/3/5/3/12) 2.9

from tin. pours almost clear copper, orange tint, with a very small white cap, no retention or lacing (must have been something wrong here - not consistent at al with other ratings, hence i’ll give it a 2 instead of a total fail 1 as per appearance). very nice and complex fruity malts, nuttiness, dry caramel and bready maltiness, earthy yeastiness, leafy green hops - barely present but gives the brew a decent balance. average carbonation, light body - very oily, very nice grassy-citrusy finish. nicely malted brew that somehow lacks in the hopping section. still... nice to drink.

Can. Pretty good. Copper, light head. Nice malt and _______ flavour. Is it yeast, malt, hop, fermentation? Not sure but it smells good. Taste is just as good and intriguing. Nice toasty flavour and _________ and light caramel.

Can: Poured a clear brown color alt with a large foamy head with good retention and some alight lacing. Aroma of dry caramel malt with chewy biscuit malt is quite great. Taste is a great mix between some dry caramel malt with light roasted nuts and chewy gain. Body is about average with medium carbonation. Pretty bang on to style, great drinkability and very enjoyable.

Can [473ml]. Pours a deep, bubbly orange-amber with a small diminishing frothy off-white head. Mild aroma of caramel malt, nuts, metal, bread and a hint of hops -- it’s all very subtle. Flavour, also mild and slightly watery, of caramel malt, light grassy hops, nuts and bread. Average bodied. Too mild, subtle and dull for my tastes. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

473 ml can (25th anniversary collaboration). Pours a copper-orange clear amber with a thick beige head. Smell is very hoppy (earthy) and malty. Taste is roast, caramel, fresh veggies, nuts. Very well-dosed earthy hops, not aggressive at all. A herbal touch in the finish. Light bodied. Excellent altbier, very refreshing.

473ml can from the LCBO. Clear amber-copper with a large fizzy/foamy beige head. Smells like ... nothing; seriously, no aroma - no alcohol, paper, sweetness, bitterness, metal - just ... nothing. Taste - light nutshell and metallic harshness - mostly just ... yep: nothing. Watery, still, quick-finishing, leaves a dry slightly harsh earthy aftertaste. Mostly just water, AFAICT.

Lubiere (8243) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - OCT 24, 2012
A dark amber alt with a thin mocha head. In aroma, a nutty metallic malt with light green pepper notes, vegetal. In mouth, a nice nutty malt with grassy notes, roasted character, not bad, but a bit underwhelming.
