3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Can from brewery” pours a clear lush deep copper with red highlights. A decent sticky 2 finger cap and moderate carbonation. Pungent aroma of toasty-sweet malts over the earthy notes of noble hops clean malty nose to it. Flavour is intense but on target for the Altbier style – big chewy toasty bready malts in front in remarkable balance with the woody/herbal noble hop bite, clean toasty-nutty finish with increasing bittering to a beautiful well balanced finale and light hop aftertaste. A flavourful, robust, easy drinking German amber ale, hard to fault that. This is probably the best commercial Altbier in Canada as good or better than German commercial Alts. Another solid offering from Creemore who keep me coming back.

Golden copper coloured pour with copper white head. Nose is caramel, toast, and alcohol. Caramel taste that gradually turns bitter from the hops. Palate is oily, then a bit dry. OK, not great.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Darkish amber. Intensely toasty, slightly caramelly, taste reverses those characters, with delicate fruitiness, and a hearty body for a 5%er.

2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Faint scent of malt and caramel. Clear copper colour. Flavour of malt, caramel, nuts, and bread. Medium body with mild carbonation. A fine beer to sip on without giving it much thought.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
473 ml can. Pours a dark gold/light amber with a large pillowy white head. Aromas are acidic woody malts, a little bit of dank basement. Tastes are dry tinny malt, a touch of alcohol, maybe some bitter nuttiness. Dry and crisp on the palate, strong carbonation and a medium dry/bitter finish.

2.8 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
One of the reviews below uses the adjective muted and I fully agree. This beer could be excellent if the existing flavours were amped up - don’t change them, just give us more, more of the same malt, more of the same hops. Considering that it is marketed as an alt and a collaboration, I am surprised at the relative restraint of the palate even as compared to Creemore Lager itself. A missed opportunity, in my opinion.

Brown with a white, lacy, thin disappearing head. Smells of caramel, sulfar, dirty socks and earth. Medium oily body with medium carbonation. Tastes like club soda, corn, caramel, malt, and a bad chemical finish. Blah

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Rating #895 - January 9, 2014 - 1oz. Sample from GranvilleMolsonCoors Rep.Pours golden amber color with a frothy white head . Nose is barnyard grasses, earth. Earthy spicy hop character dominated by an old-style malt forward beer. Medium carbonation. Taste is a hint of toffee, caramel with dominant maltiness, mild grassiness. Not as good as DDC’s altbier but not far off. Would love to experience a German original in the style, not just well-made (to my young mind) Canadian copycats.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Tall can. Pours clear amber, off-white head. Nose is noble hops, cracker and pils malt, caramel. Flavour is crackery/biscuity, sulphur, mineral water, some bitterness in the finish. Alright, with a surprising similarity to their regular lager.
