Mad & Noisy is a new small batch series from Creemore Springs Brewery, named after the two rivers that merge and flow through the village of Creemore. The first release is Hops & Bolts India Pale Lager, a Czech twist on an English IPA. Hops & Bolts IPL is a bit lighter than an IPA, but a bit fuller than your golden lager, featuring a pithy bitterness that blends to a silky balancing malt sweetness. In the glass, you’ll see a slight unfiltered haze which settles to a bright orange-cedar colour and a dense, lingering off-white head. The big hoppy aroma features a blend of light tropical fruits and bold piney and grassy notes.

341 ml bottle. (5.3% ABV) Pours a hazy dark amber-orange with a large, frothy, long lasting, off-white head that laces. Mild caramel malt aroma with grain and wood. Sweet flavour of grapefruit, caramel malt, pine and grass with a dry, bitter finish. Medium body with an oily texture and average carbonation. Meh.

600 ml bottle. Pretty amber pour with persistent lacy white head. Aroma is caramelly, very malty, bready, english style, leafy hop very light piney notes, woody. Taste is woody, caramel, light earthiness, mild bitter finish. Palate is med bodied with good carbonation. I bought this expecting an IPL, I got an english india pale lager. Definitely weird and not astonishing but easy drinking nonetheless.

16 ounce can pours a Amber orange color with off-white head that dissipates quickly. Floral hop aroma very subdued. Light in body high in carbonation. Some hop bitterness not a whole lot of hop flavor though a bit of orange taste?

Pours hazy pale amber-orange with one finger of medium dense light beige head diminishing gradually to a thin cap, moderate spotty lacing. (3/5) Nose is grassy, pithy citrus, caramel malt. (6/10) Taste is moderate sweet, moderate bitter. (6/10) Light to medium body, moderate sustained carbonation, lingering bitter finish. (4/5) Not a bad IPL, but as usual I find myself wondering about the point: the hoppiness isn’t bad, and I like the unfiltered aspect of it, but every second sip smells like an adjunct lager. It’s so hard to make a lager that isn’t reminiscent of cheap crap, I keep wondering, why bother? (12/20)

Aroma of faint hops. Has some nice hop flavours, not too fresh and has a funky malt element.

Draft. Gold with a 1 finger white head. Taste and aroma are floral and light citrus with a bready malt backbone. Light crisp mouthfeel. Very drinkable. I liked this. 1
