Light molasses, brown sugar, dried plums and prunes. A bit of floral noble hop aroma in back of the sweet malts. The maltiness smells more Belgian than German. Flavour is less malty than the aroma suggests. Fairly clean tasting, brown sugar, toasty finish. Pretty tasty. Thanks Tupalev. jbrus (4916), Delft, Netherlands

Light sweet, nice hops, could use more body. Bit roasted finish with some bitterness. DocLock (4648), Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA

| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Nov 13, 2004 341 ml bottle. Clear dark copper, medium decaying tan head. Bright caramel, ligh wood in the nose...sweet mouthfeel, very smooth, light smoked herbal quality. Not bad at all, but a disappointment after the very good lager. tiggmtl (4312), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
| 2.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 1/5 | 5/10 | 1/5 | 9/20 | Nov 24, 2004 Caramel, dark fruit in the aroma. Almost opaque ruby toned mahogany colour with fizzy, off-white, fully-diminishing head - flat and oily appearance. Sweet malt up front with some dark fruit and a curious hint of banana. Roasty in the finish with fair hop bitterness also. Unfortunately flavour dies quickly and I found this less enjoyable with each sip. Light, still and a touch on the watery side. Bottle. Thanks, Lubiere. Sammy (4070), Toronto, Ontario, Canada

(2004 version) More German-like quality with less carbonation noticeable. Sweet, nicer brown colour. Same overall rating. HogTownHarry (4037), Toronto (Harbourfront), Ontario, Canada
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Dec 6, 2005 Draught. At Smokeless Joe. What’s the big deal with this stuff? I’ve had it 3 years in a row now, and everyone talks it up, but it’s thin, sour and completely forgettable. Pours clear mahogany with a thin off-white wispy head. Taste is chocolate-toffee licorice, some grain, burnt caramel malt - quite mild. Taste follows, a little sour and dishwatery - needs hops! - really has a burnt lingering taste. Mouthfeel thin but sticky - overall, a big fat ehhhh.
