3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 DougShoemaker (3148) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - MAY 25, 2002
Heavy malt scent. Golden colour, fluffy head. Hoppy and malty, intense after taste. Alcohol is well hidden. Lot’s of carbonation. Too easy to drink for 10%!
3.1 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 BlackHaddock (2367) - Shropshire, ENGLAND - APR 11, 2012
June 2011: Obtained from a local ’Bargin Booze’ outlet, just for joke: I was determinded to dislike it and had a bias preconception formed from trying other high alcohol canned lagers in the UK.
However, I liked the damn thing!
Wonderfully sunny day, and I was knackered after grafting all week: sat in the back garden I remembered this beer and thought I’d give it a go. Poured into Budweiser Budvar stemmed tulip.
Lovely snow white head on top of a crystal clear golden, bright lager. Looked almost identical to the wifes Carlsberg Export, except the Carlsberg had next to no head.
Alcohol esters in an otherwise odourless lager/pilsner type non-smell, I give a score of 3 for smell-less lagers/pilsners.
The actual taste reminded me of a Brigand Belgian Ale, with the alcohol being a little more prominent in this beer.
I also expected a nasty metalic headache type feel to the aftertaste, this didn’t happen and I was pleasantly suprised by the beer in general. Sure it had too much alcohol for my tastes, but it told me that on the tin. This a lot better than many in this class or style, honest.
2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Leighton (6989) - London, ENGLAND - DEC 4, 2010
Can, 10% version. Bubbly gold pour with a thick, creamy and pure white head. Grainy, cereal malts in the nose with some alcohol poking through. Flavor is lightly sweet but dominated by booze. Some cereal, soggy hops. Medium to full bodied with average carbonation and considerable warmth. Boozy finish with some sugary malts. I’m not a big fan of this style generally but this brew is drinkable.
2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 Papsoe (25131) - Frederiksberg, DENMARK - NOV 22, 2005
(Bottle 33 cl) 10% ABV version. Pretty, fully golden colour - bordering amber. Very fizzy, almost noisy when poured, but the head remains pretty much absent. Full-bodied and potent, but surprisingly the alcohol is not THAT prominent. Perhaps the added German aroma hops draw some of the attention away from the booze. Not bad for a European Strong. 040400
2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 luttonm (1631) - Belgrade, SERBIA - SEP 17, 2011
.5l can found in Florence, Italy. Really nice sweet sip, the alc is back there but this is ok to taste. citrus-crisp and honey before a full alc backbone of malt. All the nonsense of a strong euro lager does come but it is balanced by some more pleasant flavors and sensations. I would drink this again.
2.7 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 11/20 SilkTork (4898) - Rochester, Kent, United Kingdom, WALES - JUL 26, 2012
500ml can from local supermarket. Dirt cheap. Initial solvent aroma settles into faint honey. Clean, plastic, sweetish malt with little awareness of hops. Mild carbonation. Soft flavour, finishes with mild bitterness and some chalk, mushrooms, faint spice, honey and fridge ice. OK.
2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20 reebtogi (3267) - Edmonton, Alberta, CANADA - NOV 2, 2011
500ml can pours a pale golden color with a big white head with very little retention. Aroma is grain and alcohol with some hops. Taste is harsh alcohol and hops with a little malty sweetness in the background. A below average strong beer.
2.3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20 trapped (336) - TURKEY - JUL 5, 2011
Deep yellow clear appearance, whitish foamy small head, vanilla aroma, mild carbonation, sweetish hoppy taste, medium finish. Too much alcohol content to enjoy properly!
2.3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 LeopardMan (53) - NEW ZEALAND - MAY 19, 2006
Served in a lager glass. Fairly average white head poured with noticeable fizzing. A lightly cloudy yellow. Aroma and flavour are fairly average considering the alcohol content which I’d expected to burn more than it did. I’d agree with Papsoe re: the hops making the 10% ABV less obvious. Nice enough bitterness in the finish. An efficient alcohol delivery device. Wish it wasn’t so expensive here.
2.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 Dorqui (1768) - Brescia, ITALY - FEB 4, 2005
10% ABVversion. Light and little long-lasting foam. Yellow color gold, tending to the orange. Good fizz. Unusual, anomalous scent. It seems nearly strawberry’s cewingum. Taste decided with talk of apple.
