COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
While aging our Porter in bourbon barrels for our annual holiday release, the brewers at Cricket Hill set one barrel aside to experiment with sour aging. The result is a pleasantly tart rendition of our yearly favorite. Only available in very limited quantities, this hand-bottled ale is a uniquely delicious addition to our Brewers Reserve Series and to your holiday table!

Thanks to jcwattsrugger for the share on this one. Cheers, John! Pours a typical porter brown with an off-white head. Nose is bourbon, dark fruit, dark malts, and hints of chocolate and vanilla. Flavor is similar with bourbon present throughout with roast, sour dark fruit, and chocolate as well. Interesting take on a sour porter.

22 ounce bottle thanks to Hopdog. Pours a very dark brown color with a medium white head. A nice rich nose of bourbon, roast and nuts. The flavor was very good: essentially a well balanced bourbon stout with only light sour notes, some dryness, more dark sour fruit than big sourness. This was good, well balanced.

22 ounce bottle thanks to Doug. Sour chocolate, roasted malts, sweetness from bourbon maybe. This was not for me.

Bottle… Pours dark brown (nearly black) with a mid-sized, creamy, khaki head. Good retention. The bouquet offers vanilla, black cherries and chocolate. Medium-bodied with a milky mouthfeel and airy carbonation. The flavor is of cocoa and tart, lightly bitter, fruity tannins. Chocolaty, tangy, dry finish. Bottle generously shared by jyoungsbcp!

Draft. Pours dark brown with a beige head. Dark fruity aroma, with lighter bourbon and lightly roasted malts. The flavor has tart dark fruits, bourbon, and lightly roasted malts. Good stuff.

Bottle shared by jcwattsrugger. Brown with a small head. Nose is dark fruits, light roast, light tartness. Similar flavor. I wrote: okay, pretty ho-hum.

Bottle courtesy of John at a tasting at Max’s for Sam’s visit. Pours a deep dark brown with a thin tan head. Light wood and a touch of sour malt on the nose, barrel. Medium bodied, toast, roast, a light sourness. Sour and roasty. A good bitterness on the finish. Nice and quite interesting.

Bottle shared at the NY Meet the TURD tasting; thanks jcwattsrugger! Pours dark brown. Aroma is slightly medicinal and bretty with notes of grape and chocolate. Slight cheese flavor with notes of grape skins and dark chocolate. Moderately acidic with chocolate and cheese in the finish. Odd but smooth and flavorful.

Thanks to mdfb79 for sharing this bottle. Served in a SAVOR wine glass. Pours dark brown with a thin tan head and a bit of a collar as that goes down. The nose brings some light roast and earth with a bit of barrel character and sourness. Some oxidation issues there as well, plus mild oak. The flavor is an improvement with some slight fruity notes and a mild acidity. Medium body with faint acidity and a touch of tannin. Not a huge fan, though not a bad beer.
