Cask (gravity) at GBBF 2009, Day 2 @ 5.5%. Sold as Captain Blides ESB. Hazy amber - same colour as the Beer Works Boston Common sampled at the same time. Quite leafy hops, in reassonably generous measure. Fairly prominent bitterness. Pleasant and easy-drinking.

12 oz bottle. Pours a nice medium bright orange copper with a med head. Aroma is fruity esters, slight orange, mango almost, sweet light caramel and toffee with nuts. and light fruity and earthy hops. Flavor is toffee, caramel malts, light grassy and tea-like hops and moderately fruity- relatively smooth and easy drinking. Not bad.

Tap at the brewery. Pours a slight hazy light amber with a good sticky rocky head. Aroma is slightly fruity malty but tended to be more towards the floral hop side. Good smooth mouthfeel, with low carbonation. Nice malty flavor, slightly sweet, with a good bitterness to round it out. Very nice.

Cask at GBBF 09, 5.5% ABV, believe it may well be the alt. Anyways, ruddy brown with almost no head. Moderate citrussy and piney hops, quite bitter flavours. Dry finish. Flat. Refreshing.

Bottle from jah noth. Pours clear and sparkling light copper with a small, frothy, off-white head, somewhat lasting with good lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (bread, hay, straw), average hops (flowers, pine), average yeast (earth, sweat) with notes of honey, apple, pear, and cask. Medium bodied, gritty texture, lively carbonation, and a metallic finish. Long duration, light sweetness, moderate acidity and bitterness. Pleasant, earthy, cellar beer.

Bottle. Copper amber with ann off white head. Toasty sweet malt aroma with some herbal hops. The flavor has a fair amount of earthy and herbal hops on top of a toasty and nutty malt base. Well balanced and easy drinking.

When I first poured the Colonel Blides Cask Ale I noticed it had a semi sweet smell a little different from what I remember From the Colonel Blides ale I had many moons ago. Colonel Blides Cask Ale had a light citrus taste which was a little over powered by the hoppyness of the Ale. The citrus was trying to fight its way out for attention, but it was beaten and left in the trunk, only letting a yell now and then.

Pours with a small handsome head that quickly dissolves, not leaving much lacing.......but what was there, is good. The amazing aroma of all things earthy and hoppy is really where things start to take off for this authentically flavored, mildly carbonated ale that is very easy to drink for the style. Beautiful copper color, too. Cricket Hill got this one right, that’s for sure!

Fruity aroma with apples. Nice clear amber in color with a quick white head. Tangy maltiness, medium bodied, quite crisp, tart fruitiness is reminiscent of grapefruit and pineapple. Very juicy hops. This is a pleasant surprise.
