COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
No mere beverage could satisfy the thirst of the courageous and gallant soldiers who stood guard over the colonies of the British Empire. Their thirst could only be quenched by a full-bodied hearty Ale; an Ale balanced with rich flavorful hops. We are proud to offer our interpretation of this English style India Pale Ale for those who loong for the time when once your duty was complete, the taste of a fine Ale was reward enough for a job well done.

Hazy gold pour, huge head. The aroma is honey, earthy, citrus, soap. Medium bodied, very peculiar flavor profile - leather, earthy, funk, old dusty hops. The finish is mildly bitter. Not quite an IPA, more in the APA family, and it tastes of Brett.

This is kind of backwards from the trend in IPA these days, which is to say it is really bitter and does not have much hop aroma. It is a cloudy orange brew w/ a fine-bubbled white head that leaves nice little spots of laces. There is a bit of pine-resin hops in the nose but itís mostly nutty, lightly oxidized malts. This is way on the sweet side for the style, sticky and almost syrupy w/ mild carbonation. As a form of balance, I guess, it is also quite bitter w/ a heavy earthy, resinous hop character. As you work your way through the glass, it seems to somehow get even sweeter and the finish takes on a bit of a metallic character. This does not seem to have any major brewing flaws aside from that oxidation in the nose so Iím thinking that this is just a bad recipe. If you are into really sweet and heavy beers, I could see you liking this but this is just a bad example of the style.

DATE REVIEWED: June 20, 2014... GLASSWARE: Barley Creek pint... OCCASION: Oís/Yanks renewed, and Blatt is named new Cavs coach...APPEARANCE: light amber, effervescent body; creamy pure white head that stands firm; inviting with nice spiraling lacing... AROMA: sprucey with some citrus scents; a bit of grapefruit, apple, melon and otherwise, agreeable... PALATE: big, full-bodied presence that demands attention on the tongue and teeth; a pulsating aftertaste, almost an aftershock... TASTE: a well-balanced approach here,, with grapefruit,, apple, melon, mellow sweet malts and a bit of yeasty funk--a tasty balance... OVERALLL: a strong, memorable experience throughout, with enough punch and balance ti please the palate--a local brew delivers a winner....

Pours a cloudy orange into the glass, with a sudsy ring of lacing that travels down the glass. The nose is of caramel, leaves and herbs. Flavors have caramel, light citrus, pale malts and finish with a lightly sweet/lightly herbal bitter. The body is medium and the palate is semi-satiated with the complexities of flavors. The quaff is easy enough, and active with carbonation. Not a bad example of the "original" British IPA. Good job!

Bottle.
Appearance: Mildly hazy orange hued with golden edges. The head is dense and light tan, short with decent retention. It settles into a dense coating.
Aroma: Slightly orange, slightly malty, and a slight tart orange tinge to it. The aroma isnít bad, but boy is it bland.
Taste: Mildly bitter with a floral edge to it, the malt base is mild without much flavor. Tastes like a poor homebrew.
Palate: Full-bodied and mildly carbonated.
Overall: They should stop brewing this. Itís just not very good. I wouldnít even recommend this as an entry level IPA when there are so many better pale ales around.

Bottle from Weis lewisburg. Pours orange with very little head. Doesnít leave much lacing. Has a little but of pine on the nose. A little bigger pine note on the tongue but still pretty subdued. Finishes clean. Eh!

12 oz. bottle. Pours a clear dark gold color with a thick slightly off-white head that hangs around for a while. Aroma is mostly pine hops with some caramel malt in the background. Taste is the same with a slight hop bitterness in the finish. Not bad.

Ok first review. ( if I could comment and not rate I would ) but this is a really unique beer in my eyes. No bs floral aromas, just hops and more hops. The aftertaste alone is enjoyable. This is a first at bat beer. Get one or four before you drink the cheap stuff. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle @All My Vinyl Tasting, Edinburgh. Pours golden with an ever so s;light haze. Grapefruit/citrus fruits on the nose. Bitter and dry on the palate, all bitter, nothing else, one toned, ok if you like that sort of thing and i dont mind it but this just needs something to bring it out of its shell.
