Bottle from Sam’s Quik Stop. Pours a turgid brown with no head. Nose is of bourbon and apples which don’t mix very well. Tastes of maple syrup and apples which is another combination that doesn’t work. Cloying in its linger. Not feeling this one at all.
3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20 magsinva (604) - Virginia, USA - DEC 25, 2012
Bottle from Sam’s quik shop - pours dirty cloudy yellow-orange with bits of yeast(?) floating in it. Aroma is the best thing about this one with notes of bourbon, green apples, pineapple, and alcohol. I don’t get any of the rye, it doesn’t seem to be adding anything. The taste is lightly sweet, but mostly lacking of anything until it warms a bit. Palate is very watery with a touch of alcohol in the finish. Overall, I was disappointed by this one. I’m not getting the point of blending 4 ciders if the result is thin apple water, that granted, smells fantastic.

Bottle.
Hazy dull golden pour with very little head. Nose of oak, crisp apples, whiskey - honey sweetness, apples, and a woody bourbon finish. Unique.

Bottle from The Davis Beer Shoppe. Pours hazy gold with a few bubbles. Aroma is fairly bourbon. Maybe also rye. Definitely also apple. Flavor is rather cider sweet - I think it’s more rye than bourbon/van - Mildly woody. Think the honey comes through on the lips. Interesting stuff. Not getting banana ester, so don’t know where the trappist yeast went.

Apple cider and bourbon barrel aroma- very nice. Cloudy light honey color. Tastes sweet and tart with a dry, tannic finish. Barrel is a very prominent flavor amidst Granny Smith and sweet apple flavors that finish with a warm spice note.

I grabbed a bottle of this about a month ago, and it wasn’t even in the database yet, thanks to whoever put this in for sparing me the trouble.
Pours a very hazy yellow with a champagne rise and fall head.
I’m beyond taken with the aroma of this cider, it smells a great bit like cognac woody and rich, aromatic and complex a little spicy.... but somehow rustic. But it’s fruitier, not in an appley way though it’s more citrusy than appley... This reminds me of the aroma of a well made sidecar and I love it.
The flavor is less amazing to me, this is not to say it’s bad though... it’s a touch sweet but very spicy and woody... beyond that I’m not catching a ton of Whiskey character here... it is boozy and has a bit of a tinge of brandy. Some of the sweeter ciders that Crispin has blended into this seem to be weighing it down a little bit more sweetness than I would prefer but then there is some of the barrely funkiness that is so great about Polish mead that is quite certainly present here... so that’s pretty cool and matches the sweetness well.
I like this one.... Maybe not as much as Stagger Lee but I do like it and I’d probably buy it again. Not bad for Tenth and Blake cider... and really very good for Crispin.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Chipalsa (1091) - Florida, USA - DEC 15, 2012
Bottle
Appearance - Cloudy yellow, light bubbles
Aroma - Whiskey, apples, oak
Taste - Sweet apple, tart, alcohol
I was hoping for more of a punch here, but it was just an average cider overall. Aromas initially revealed a nice whiskey aroma, but the taste was just apples and wood - pretty good though!!!
