3L box, (like a wine...) at first I thought this was a 4pk, clerk even said it was. $14.99@HopCity. Clear yellow, zero fizz. Aroma of sweet applesauce. Tastes of juice. Finishes with essence of Chard Wine. Worth the money. (3593)

Box sample. Poured clear pale color with a minimal head that diminished slowly with little lacing. Medium floral apple aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Medium tart apple flavor with a medium tart finish of short to moderate duration. Soft drinkable beverage.

Box to taster at Dutch’s. Looks like apple juice; a still, transparent gold. Smells like apple juice too. Tastes like it smells, but fermented. Average on the palate. I like my ciders carbonated.

Pour from a box. Clear golden color. No head or lace. No carbonation. Medium body. Moderate sweet taste, very light tart. Flavor is exactly like apple juice, albeit decent apple juice. On the plus side, I can’t tell at all that this apple juice is alcoholic, there isn’t any hint of it, unless I’m gulping down multiple sips at a time (which I could never do with the typical carbonated cider). No acidic taste or body that I sometimes get from ciders, either... So you could say this might pass as refreshing, even to a non-cider-head. Interesting, and in a couple ways, impressive.

3 liter box o’ cider...

Pours like a glass of apple juice, golden, perfectly clear, perfectly still.

The aroma is very pleasant, not overly sweet, not especially apple-y... The cider has a bouquet wonderfully reminiscent of some of the more crisp and refreshing old world white wines (i.e. Pinot Gris, Vinho Verde, etc) with a nice fruitiness, strawberry, apple skin, white grape with very subtle earthy notes of sawdust wildflowers.

The flavor is maybe less complex than the aroma, it is described above as off-dry... I can see where they are coming from... it’s considerably drier than may Crispin products, but it’s fairly sweet up front. The finish is dry and has a nice lingering but mild bitter fruit rind character that is very pleasant. Floral and light spicy flavors are nice, the apple is again a central player but is about as prominent as the crisp white wine character.

The palate is where this one looses me, now I know very well that this is supposed to be flat, but the trouble is that it’s terribly thin in body, which I assume most un-carbonated Cider would be... which is why it’s more lovely with the bubbles in it. But it’s very easy to drink on the other hand...

4 liter box from State Line. Pours a crystal clear golden color. Intensely spicy aroma with notes of cinnamon, apples and mild leather. The taste is spicy, floral, pears and apples. Faint vanilla and darker apples, along with hot cinnamon candy. Spicy finish. Very interesting cider and much more intense than the name implies.

Out of a box at TPSA. Boxed cider -- I suppose that’s a logical development. Very mild nose, but still fragrant -- more floral than malic. Very faintly gold. Dry on the palate, then opening up into a little more sweeetness; description says ’still’, but there’s still a little tingle on the tongue. Yeasty, clean finish. Really quiet good.
