COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
True to its name, Cristal tastes at first almost like spring water; then comes a clean bit of hop bitterness; and a crisp, finish. It is a beautifully refreshing beer, lightly cleansing on the palate, with the appetising dryness that define the Pilsener style. Cristal pours with a very creamy head, leaving excellent lacing. Serve it lightly chilled as though it were a good Chardonnay.

UPDATED: OCT 8, 2007 Had this on tap while in Belgium thought it was better than Stella and crisp. Page 130 of Micheal Jackson’s Great Beer Guide only 422 out of his Classic Brews to go.

Needed something brainless to wash down my last beer, and here it is. This used to be an unpasteurised, aggressively hopped beer but after tasting it I can say that no longer rings true.
Poured a very thin, bright, yellow-gold. No head filled out though it had a little life on the meniscus and managed just a wee-bit of lacing. Lightly sour malts greet the nose with some barnyard hay and cracked pepper. Underneath it is skunky and eggy, convincing me it didn’t take the voyage from Belgium too well. Zingy, mint leaves and dusty hops seem to pop up first in the mouth. Sadly the mid-palate was lifeless and cardboardy with artificial sweetener sitting up front giving it a nasty tangy sweetness. Finish has a mild bitter edge before a sweet, rough malt swallow that showed little length. Body is light and the carbonation soft so you could slam ten of these down before your first belch and trip to the little men’s room. Not really my thing at all, though it was better than the Maes Pilsener. (25cL, 4.8% ABV, 11/04/07, Int’l Beer Shop, W. Leederville)

UPDATED: JUN 24, 2006 Pale malty pils with some fresh bread in the nose, and appetisingly bitter finish. Displeasingly metallic aroma (sardines anyone?)and feeble head, but more character than Belgian pilseners in the same vein such as Primus and Jupiler. Rich man’s Cara Pils.

Clear gold blond, light sprankling. Average white head. Fresh hoppy aroma, some fruityness. Medium body, somewhat flat taste. Finish is also rather flat, just a second some sharp bitter, but that ends quickly, leaving a sweet dry mouthfeel.

First beer of my trip to Ljubljana, Slovenia. Brought from Belgium by my friend Boštjan. A huge thanks to him.

0.33l bottle if I remember correctly. It poured a huge thick but fluffy white head that went fast, leaving tons of thick lacing. Pale golden colour with lazy carbonation. The aroma was basically, dusty lemon. Interesting. Generic grainy taste with some dusty honeyish malt with an underlying herbal hopiness and lemoniness. Weak lemony aftertaste. I’ve had a lot of worse pilseners than this. Better than Stella too.

Bottled. Pale yellow, brief head. Foul compost heap aroma. Sweet and fruity with lots of decomposing vegetables and some unpleasant saccharine. Soem stale hops leads to an inky finish. An awful industrial lager.

UPDATED: JAN 18, 2006 Not a very good pilsner but not bad either. The taste is hoppy and bitter. In this weird situation is the taste of the can the best. (Bottle 25cl,can,tap)
