from bottle at mondial 2014, mtl. unclear light brown pour, orange tint, with a nice slightly creamy beige-orange cap, some retention and lacing. burnt caramel, sweet toasted malts, booze - fusel too, some fruitiness - plain raisins, fairly spicy too, sweetness - brown sugar, cola and wort, iron traces. moderate carbonation, medium body - oily, short grassy-spicy finish. unconvincing dubbel or belgian strong.

My Bottom Line:
Nutmeg and star anise surge atop this Christmas-y brew, as fruity undertones and prickly effervescence enhance the festive approach.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A slice of foam covers the purplish brown.
-The yeast character is overthrown by the spiciness.
-Malts do contribute some raisin-y sugars.
-This is a very professional brew, but it is too spice-laden for my tastes in Dubbels.

Bottle.

Brown color. Funky yeasty nose with some chocolate notes, but overall lacked balanced, complexity and had some off flavors which weren’t very enjoyable. I just could not finish a glass of this beer.

Draft @ Fiera della Birra di Ferrara, Nov 2013. Grazie Federico for the sample.

Dark brown color with small head. Strong aroma of sweet caramel. Good body strength, lean mouthfeel; sweet caramel flavor, with something that feels like oxidisation; relatively low bitterness; the alcohol provides a pleasant warmth.
Nice, but uncomplicated.

Nice brune - very dark, and a tight cappucino head. Nice estery aroma - juicy and sweet, but beneath that there’s a nice dark toasty roast - wholemeal grains. Smooth palate, soft carbonation. Lots of sweet esters in the retronasals. Full toasty taste. Some dry fatty walnut paper noble hop finish. Very nice.

Bottled@HBF2013. Deep ambery brown colour, small off-white head. Aroma is citrus, alcohol, mild glue and some spices. Flavour is citrus, glue, spices, alcohol and some yeastyness. A bit too much gluelike sweetness, otherwise quite close to a good BSA.

Bottle @ HBF2013. Pours dark brown, a very small, yellowish-brown ring of bubbles. Aroma is strong and sweet yellow apples, caramel is strong as well, some pear as well as light ethanol. Taste is caramel as well as the sweet, fresh yellow apples again, some pear flavor as well. Palate is medium with some carbonation.
