A pitch black beer with a creamy white head (the “stout” part) coupled with very low alcohol content and a massive American hop charge (the “Un” part).

To make this small beer with huge flavour we used a large proportion of flaked barley and oats into the mash to give plenty un-fermentable sugars which help provide body to the finished beer – a well known challenge to brewers making low alcohol beers. Also in the mash was roast barley and roast rye to give us the black colour and slight roast flavour. We then hopped it radically using an awesome mix of Cascade, Columbus and Chinook. The final beer is 2%abv and crammed full of flavours!

500 ml bottle. BB 13/Aug/2015. Thanks Timo A! Black color with a small tan head. Hops, mild bitterness, vegetables, roasted malt and dryness in the aroma. The flavor is hops, moderate bitterness, roasted malt, licorice and dryness. Tasty. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

50 cl bottle. BBE 13.08.2015.
Pours jet black color with a large off-white head. Very interesting aroma here, licorice, sweet fruits, hops, mild ashy notes, tobacco and even some leathery notes. Palate is watery as was expected, again some ashy notes, licorice, lactic notes, very subtle salty salmiac and some dark fruits. Carbonation is strong, lingering bitter aftertaste. Surprisingly lot of flavors here.

From 500 ml bottle. Pours a dark cola-like brown with a thin tan head that disappears almost entirely. Aromas of chocolate, black coffee, cinnamon and a little pine. Taste is smooth chocolate up front before a pine and coffee bean bitterness washes through. The body is pretty thin so it all falls away at the end, leaving a gentle fruity aftertaste. Not bad for the low abv but I’d rather a more robust dark beer.

Keg at The Font, Chorlton. Dark reddish brown shade. Lovely big fluffy head. Liking the hops in the aroma. Taste again is fruity and hoppy with a coffee maltiness. Body is not the strongest but much, much better than 2% would suggest. Top effort.

Bottle, 50cL. Home. A pitch black beer with a big beige head ; medium retention. Roast aroma, toasty, herbs, resin, coffee, floral. Light sweet in the beginning ; medium dry bitter refreshing ; "light". Medium body, watery texture, soft carbonation, dry floral bitter finish. Overall, surprising pleasant aroma, OK taste ; watery but a good one if you consider this low alcohol level !!

Bottled Beerdock Crewe. Lovely fresh pine aroma with smoky roast notes. Great bitter palate, which translates to a long, tangy finish. Packed with flavour and body and a really impressive low abv beer. Black IPA or stout? Who cares!?

Light chocolatey aroma with a slight spice or earthy backbone, smells very black IPA like. Deep brown / black with a latte head. Flavour is spicy with rustic grain hints and a bit of citrus with a significant bitterness to follow. Kind of like fruity, bitter, dirt. Nice and light for something so dark. I think black IPA style is definitely a good way to go for low abv beers.

Pours black with a brown, lively head. Aroma is weak and consists of nuts and roast coffee. Taste is weak roast coffee, mango and orange fruitiness and medium bitter hop finish. Medium bodied with slightly watery nuances but for this ABV its hard to complain.

Bottle from Wine Emporium 301014. Great beer with such a low alcohol content. Creamy looking tan head above a deep black beer. Malty and bitter.
