3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
[Bottle (500ml) shared with HogTownHarry, GregClow, jercraigs & mabel -- c/o j&m] Pours a hazy orange-amber with an average size diminishing bubbly off-white head. Nice aroma, malty and hoppy along with some fruit. Flavour’s the same, malty, hoppy and fruity but adds some toffee. Hoppy finish. Alcohol is well hidden. Pretty good stuff.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
2014-12-04. Lightly hazy dark copper-brown body with a tiny beige head. 3+ Aroma is quite malt forward, caramel and fruit, raisins and figs. 7++ Flavour is similarly malt forward, moderate alcohol character gains traction in the finish, amplified by the bitterness of the finish. Average plus bodied palate, light carbonation. 3+ Solid, it shows the booze just a bit more than my preference but is still pretty nice. Bottle from Valhalla’s Goat, Glasgow

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Cask at PSBH, Manchester. Dark copper shade with a light brown head. Aroma is toffee, brown sugar and a fair amount of hops. Taste starts off with malty sweetness before a sticky, gluey, resinous hoppiness takes hold. Hint of dark fruits in there. I’m not sold on hoppy barleywines but this is a pretty good effort.

3.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
bottle at home from alesela
dank resinous nose on this hazy dark amber with fluffy beige head. Initial flavour encompasses the aroma in a fresh pine forest needle cloud with brash bitterness but then the heavy malt body takes over with a touch of marmitey autolysis overpowering the hops in the finish. Decent American style barley wine until those age notes start to creep in, perhaps it needed filtering rather than BC? Otherwise a decent attempt at it and I expect even more boisterous when first released. Look forward to 3rd anniversary release.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
50 cl bottle @ PBF IX.
Pours clear amber color with a small head. Aroma is very hoppy and fruity, fresh fruits at that, pine needles and some alcohol notes. Mild ripe fruits on the flavor, resinous hops, some wooden notes and caramel malts. A bit sweet sticky palate. More like an American Strong Ale or DIPA. Decent.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle 500ml (PBF IX)
Amber color, small off-white head. Hoppy, worty aroma. Full-bodied. Very hoppy, a bit ryeish, some worty flavors. Some fruityness. Quite bitter. Much more DIPA than barley wine. Not really my thing.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
500 ml bottle @ PBF IX. Pours a dark orange amber colour with a small head. Aroma of ripe banana, mango, some pineapple and grass. Rich flavour of pale malts, juicy mango sweetness, pineapple, floral bitterness, some biscuit and warming alcohol. Full bodied and soft carbonation. Warming, juicy, malty finish. Enjoyable. More of a fresh DIPA than a barley wine, at least for now.
