Gushing, after 12 years! Head is however immediately gone. Completely clear, red-gold, few big bubbles. Overpowering aroma of fruit, old vintage sherry, fruit essence, cherries, wild strawberries. Distinct fruit taste, but not as in fresh fruit. Rather as a precious liqueur made with selected ripe fruits. The essence of cherries - on sherry. Neither sweet, neither sour. Retronasal taste of venerable aged wine and, strange, lytchee. Mouthfeel neither thin, neither full - aetheral. Aftertaste is liqueurish, fruity. Perfection is not of this world. But this comes bl*** near. Will they finally start brewing the finest of non-lambic fruitbeers again, D*MN them! Still available at some specialised Belgian beerbars.

UPDATED: OCT 11, 2004 About 40 years old, as old as I am! Bought in 1987 in Amsterdam when a beer shop in Amsterdam had bought some old stock from the brewery. Light pink colored, still a bit of carbon left. Very vinous, cherry aroma. Thin, off course, after all those years. Cherry and tartness in the taste. Metal. Aftertaste of rubber tires. Still very drinkable. I have added some overall points because the beer has aged so well. Re-rate: Fairly recent beer. Pinkish orange color, no head. Cherry and oak aroma. Odd mix of cherry, caramel and hops. Just a hint of tartness. Very likeable and fairly complex beer. The cherries aren't overwhleming, but are just a part of the flavor of this great beer. Recommended. Re-rate Bought at the Crombé brewery, at september 1th, 2004. Intriguing cherry and cherry pits aroma. Pinkish red color. Sweetish, somewhat tart cherry flavor. Hops are also present. Thin, but tasty. I love this beer, but is it Crombé old, Crombé new or Strubbe????

A rare, but tasty example. I don’t have my notes in front of me but this had a lot of lambic character.

UPDATED: MAY 28, 2003 On tap: Cherry aroma. Pink color, light pink head, good lace, hazy. Cherry flavor of course, light tart, light sweet, light bitter. Bit dry finish. Think I like the bottled version better.
