JorisPPattyn (4638), Antwerpen, Belgium May 11, 2003 Gushing, after 12 years! Head is however immediately gone. Completely clear, red-gold, few big bubbles. Overpowering aroma of fruit, old vintage sherry, fruit essence, cherries, wild strawberries. Distinct fruit taste, but not as in fresh fruit. Rather as a precious liqueur made with selected ripe fruits. The essence of cherries - on sherry. Neither sweet, neither sour. Retronasal taste of venerable aged wine and, strange, lytchee. Mouthfeel neither thin, neither full - aetheral. Aftertaste is liqueurish, fruity. Perfection is not of this world. But this comes bl*** near. Will they finally start brewing the finest of non-lambic fruitbeers again, D*MN them! Still available at some specialised Belgian beerbars.
yespr (7779), Copenhagen O, Denmark Nov 27, 2008 33 cL bottle. Pours clear and golden deep orange with a fully gone head. Dry and phenolic and cherry aroma. Flavour is solid phenolic with an acetone dry cherry note. Acetone and acidic into the finish. A bit Rodenbach like. FatPhil (2408), Espoo, Finland Oct 8, 2008 330ml bottle (Cracked Kettle, Amsterdam)<br />
Orangy-red, brief fizzy head. Acidic, almost cidery, and acetone (nail-varnish) aroma. Once you’ve fought past that, there’s some sour cherries. Really crisp carbonation, sharp and acidic. Not all that puckering though, compared with what I expected from other people’s reviews. Beautiful oaky woody body. Really quite sharp, but also quite mellow. Cherry can’t really make its presence felt in the taste. Finish is heady with the acetone and woody phenols, and completely devoid of alcohol. One of the few sour ales to actually be sour enough to keep me happy - it’s right alongside, or evan ahead of, Rodenbach. Storming! renffisch (461), london, Greater London, England Sep 23, 2008 bottle at ealing bf 08. aroma of sweet liquorice, honey and cherry liqueur. red amber, thin white rim. crazy sweet to start with, lovely nail varnish in the front, middle and then a well strong sour blast at the end. lovely. i can feel it eat through my stomach lining but i really love it. Magicdave6 (4092), London, Greater London, England Aug 10, 2008 Bottle at Ealing beer fest. Aroma is wow, soo sour and acidic, vinigar notes. Taste is also very acidic infact the most acidic beer iv ever had, sourness is not balanced by cherrys as id expect it to be. Still a nice experiance but more cherry and less acidic. bu11zeye (3887), Frisco, Texas, USA Jul 29, 2008 (Bottle) Pours a clear amber-orange body with a small white head. Aroma of cherry, balsamic vinegar, earthiness, funky, mustiness, leather, and nail polish remover. Flavor is sweet cherry, subtle wood, some vinous, and sugary.
